My wife, Kate, is a country girl, and I'm decidedly NOT. Playing an ever-changing game I call "Kate-bait" i once asked her "Who's Stompin Tom?" She got really upset. hahahahaha He's a Canadian icon, deservedly so. But I still can't listen to a whole song of his.

The songs are good but the studio versions tend to suck. That's why I've been relying on the vid I posted in the OP for a good old school STC fix. I thought that was the only film of that session but apparently not (see previous post). Also that 30 minute vid I posted is supposedely a fraction of some longer vid/documentary that I'll have to seek out. Anyhoo... I just love the simple sound/arrangement of just Tom, the bass dood (who's essentially playing percussion along with Tom's boot) and the guit dood who is just nailing my personal favorite style of country electric guit playing. Also kind of reminds me of the Whoa Nellie! gigs I used to go and drunkenly cheer on and/or on one occasion sitting in on snare + brushes (and nothing else but a boot and a wooden stage). ... okay... I'll go be nostalgic somehwere else... but yeah, maybe that session will cure you of your STC aversion. If not then yeah... ole Tom probably just ain't your thing. A thought however.... Your lady might appreciate the vid though. Get yerself some free hubby points. Ya?

Completely Canadian is an oxymoron. Under the NAFTA agreement, Canada has been completely assembled in Mexico from parts outsourced to China by U. S. corporations.

Bud the Spud from the bright red mud.... I love the film from the horse shoe tavern, room is blue with export-a smoke and there is a black label stubby on every table. JR

Yeah, I wasn't used to their "whatever works" stage mentality when I met them. But after a few gigs, I started to enjoy the chaos. They still play often, i've got to get out to one of their shows soon.

But you must admit... the results made for a pretty fine hat.

They tolerated (and encouraged) my chaotic arse. Unlikely gathering of musical molecules that all was but it was meant to be. Wasn't only a heckuva a great time I also learned buttloads from those cats.

As I spent the first 40 years of my life amongst nationalists, I never really connected to either French Canadian culture. And since I knew next to nothing about the ROC (rest of Canada) except that they allegedly hated us, I never connected with Canada either. Until I moved here, and started realizing how "Canadian" my wife and I were. And looking at this clip, I notice that, with a bit of perspective, us Quebecers are indeed Canadians. The language is different, but as for the rest... By the way, Canadian fellows, if you've never seen it, I do recommend that you watch a documentary called Being Canadian. It is funny. Et Vive le Canada!
