This is not a problem so much as I need schoolin'

I punched in a midi keyboard part in a midi track where there were previous events via a punch in range, but none in the punch in range (blank space in the music). everything went fine. I then decided then to add a pickup note in the punch in region via the mouse but while the note painted ok as soon as I lifted the mouse button the pasted note went clear and would not sound. I could make notes outside the region but not within it. I examined the midi note attributes of the existing punched in notes as well as the pre-existing ones and my new "clear" and silent notes. they all looked the same, channel velocity etc. No matter what I tried all I could paste into the punch in region were clear and silent notes. I tried removing the punch range and even waving a chicken over the keyboard - until I finally bounced the midi track down to one track then the issue cleared up.

Why the clear silent notes?

Spat 2017 early release.

Just a guess. Bounce the "punch" to a clip. Then you should be able to add your note.

Whoops you already answered the question. It's because " mute previous take" is checked in the record options.
If I'm wrong, scook will jump in and straighten me out.
