Windows 10?

I've been using Windows 7 for years and have been putting off upgrading to Windows 10.   Well, I'm looking at getting a new computer and was told that in a couple of months Microsoft will no longer support Windows 7.

Just wanting opinions on what people think of using Windows 10 with Sonar X3 and/or Platinum.

Thanks!
Greg

Sonar works fine under Windows 10. However, there are a few things you need to be aware of:
    • Window 10 will force you to update as updates become available. This means that it will potentially be downloading while you're working which can have a performance effect and can result in notifications as well. If you're doing paid for work on a laptop, I'd turn off WiFi while working to assure this can't happen. If you're on a desktop and doing paid work, I'd physically disconnect from the Internet (unplug the Ethernet cable) while working.
    • Windows 10 includes notifications which are a really nice feature but not something you want happening while you're recording. You need to be sure to turn off all notifications - especially if you're doing paid for work.
    • Windows will also automatically update 'apps' from the Windows Store. You should turn off automatic app updating.
There are probably other things that I'm forgetting but those are the things that come to mind.

Good to know.   Thanks, guys!   I appreciate it.
Kamm:  I always disconnect the internet when I record anyway.
    Windows 10 it is, then.

If you get Win10 Pro, there's a registry tweak where it will *prompt* that Updates are available... but it won't automatically download/install them.

If your DAW is disconnected from the Internet, it's a moot point.
The OS can't "phone home" and check for updates.

One issue I had was that Steinberg Wavelab 6 will not run on Windows 10. I use it as a plug in wave editor and for mastering. Luckily my DAW still runs Windows 7, solidly.

That's what I'm afraid of - that some things I use may not work on Windows 10.

    Thanks!

Here's the link that Jim mentioned regarding Win 10 update. It's Avery simple registry entry.

Been using windows 10 on my music machine since practically the day it came out and I have had zero issues (touch woodd 3 times quickly). It has been rock steady in my sessions. However, like others have sad it behaves like a naughty child prompting you to download updates - are we there yet, are we there yet.
