Under the sonar film recommendations
I like me a good film. I'll start with a few;
Run Silent, Run Deep Das Boot K19: The Widowmaker
Any other suggestions?

Hi, Over the years and in particular some film festivals, here we go with a list that is ... not likely to be found by most. (In alpha from my website ... just easier to list and find!) 32 Short Films about Glenn Gould 200 Motels Aguirre the Wrath of God (Werner Herzog-Klaus Kinski) Allegro Non Troppo (Italian Fantasia and better!) All the Mornings of the World (Tous les matins du monde) An angel at my table (Jane Campion) Angels and Insects A Woman's Tale (Florence!) Bandit Queen Basquiat Bedazzled (the original!) Being There (Peter Sellers) Bitter Sugar Burnt by the Sun (Oscar Winner) Camille Claudel Carmen (Carlos Saura's) Castaway (the original from Lucy Irvine's novel with Oliver Reed and Amanda Donohoe) Chimes at Midnight (Falstaff from Shakespeare's many plays! Academics hate this!) Cinema Paradiso Henry and June (About Henry Miller and his wife) High Heels Il Postino Impromptu Intervista (the opening is worth the price of admission!) Jesus of Montreal Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring (Massive pair of films must be seen in order!) Journey of Hope (Oscar Winner) La Belle Noiseusse (Takes patience to watch a painting getting done for 3+ hours) Queen Margot The Phantom of Liberty (Bunuel's last film) Little Buddha (Just close your eyes and listen to the music!) Monster in a Box Not Mozart Performance Prospero's Books Ran (Akira Kurosawa) Richard III (1995 with Benning, and others) Searching for Bobby Fisher Steppenwolf (Fred Haines) The Double Life of Veronique (Music used is fabulously mixed in) The Fencing Master (Best fencing film ever) The Misteries of Rampo The Devils (Ken Russell) The Vampire Lovers (Roman Polanski's satire - awesome film shots!) The Wild Bunch The Island on Bird Street To Live (Zhang Yimou) This should keep everyone ... lost for a while!
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

Hatstand No love for Yellow Submarine?
I liked it when it first came out and all that. Just saw that about a year ago, and it did not turn me on anymore, and I think that problem was that the music was now sounding tired for me, more than likely heard it too many times! The cartoon and design was totally awesome, but it would not stand up to the better cartoon films made, and various competitions, I don't think, despite its style being totally off kilter and new ... at a time when a lot of art was not very creative. Try and find "Allegro Non Troppo" ... it's a "Fantasia" ... a bit more for grown ups, than kids! And one of those cartoonists for the film went on to do several films that were really funny and off the wall ... specially the one that the guy is becoming a cartoon as he falls in love! His mixing of live work with the cartoon bits and such, were totally awesome and funny!

Moshkito Aguirre the Wrath of God (Werner Herzog-Klaus Kinski)
Fantastic film, nearly as bonkers as Kinski's off-camera behaviour during the shooting. Sticking to a nautical if not entirely submerged theme: 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (great cast incl. Kirk Douglas and James Mason), Moana, Fitzcarraldo

Ahh, Bapu! You obviously missed the subtle sub-textual lyrical content. Those of us in the intelligentia understand that the lyrics and music reflected the dystopian universe surrounding the fab four. They were immersed in their own undersea kingdom where they dwelt like aquarian dimorphs failing to understand the world outside their own bubble. There again I could be writing b*ll*x :)

When I was but just a wee pubescent lad (maybe 12 or 13) one of my first attempts at lyrical composition included a spoof on Yellow Submarine called Flesh Toned Testicle ... you can hear it now, We all live in a ... Not quite sure why I am sharing that.

Along those lines, I loved Fantastic Voyage when I was little. The theme has been used many times and in a nautical context ... notable in SpongeBob SquarePants (when SpongeBob and Patrick take Sandy's submarine into Squidward, hilarity ensues).

Heavily copied in Futurama too, the Parasites Lost episode :-)
