Dell XPS 8700-doesn't boot

Dell XPS 8700-doesn't boot

Year and a half old...Sonar platinum with all the updates. I got at Costco so 2 yr warranty...I had to take the hard drive out to back it up...Will find out if I get it back with programs and files intact...if not could be a rough ride reinstalling...Dell support says I need new mother board....Any one have a simmilar experience?

    "doesn't boot" leaves a lot missing.  Does that mean it does not power up?  Does that mean it will power on but fail the Power On Self Test?  Does that mean it will not run the Dell diagnostics? or finally Does that mean the OS will not boot up?

    Why not let Dell fix it if it is still under warranty? Just a thought...

    Dell telling you that the motherboard needs replaced is something I heard a few times when I used them for a business leasing plan. They were correct and Dell did replace the motherboards in a timely manner to get me going again. They get props for that, but not for the high rate I had to endure.

    Thanx gang...it would not power up, I push start button and it would start to start and then stop fan would go then stop without kicking in. I'm sending it back to dell.I'm concerned about having to reload sonar,and all updates if they have to reformat the hard drive. Any tips as I got somebody backing it up to an external. Just when I had everything running smooth...

    The last time I had to ship a PC for repair, the vendor (ASUS) was happy to have me ship it without the system drive.

    If you are sending it back, I would make a disc image (backup) of the entire drive - all partitions - to a separate drive first.  Then, if they reformat the hard drive, you still have everything.

    just got my computer back from PC clinic.... works fine... hard drive was wiped clean so had to reload all cakewalk sonar platinum and parts of pro..xln add drum and melodyne.. also my line 6 toneport... and akai mpk mini... I'm back in business...lucky I backed up all cakewalk projects and midi beats etc... took about 4 hrs to reload...so far so good...New motherboard, ram and op system windows 10 home 64 bitt...
