What's Happening about Sonar for Mac?

Cakewalk seem to have gone all quite about their Sonar for Mac, announced last year when they trumpeted that a beta version was scheduled for Autumn 2016. It's now edging towards Spring 2017 and not a word as far as I can determine. Even Google searches for "Sonar for Mac" which lead to the Cakewalk site send you straight to the general Sonar (for PC) front page.

Patience would be a virtue in this case.  It's likely quiet (<-note spelling...or it could be "quite quiet") because it turned out to be a larger undertaking than they expected...even though they likely scoped the undertaking as "freakin' huge".

To be done correctly, they will need to recode everything such that, in the end, the codebase can be conditionally compiled for either platform.  That reduces maintenance cost going forward...but it's a huge expense on the front end.

(My opinion...plus 4 dollars...will get you a cup of coffee.)

I think this is a very good assessment. I can't imagine how difficult it has to be get even the basic Sonar functionally going in a Mac version when the programmers are so knowledgeable about Windows. I love to sit in and watch them as they say "why on earth do they do it that way?"

From what I understood from previously shared information, the Sonar code base itself is already universal and can be compiled to "run" on a Mac relatively easily. But there is no AU or VST support, no ARA, etc.
That said, the lack of communication is pretty appalling.

I think that is an overstatement.

It was probably a mistake for Cakewalk to announce am "alpha" Mac version so much in advance, in hindsight, so I don't blame them at all for keeping mum on the subject. We'll know more when there is more to know. Until then, there's plenty to play with.

What's Happening about Sonar for Mac?

From my analysis the answer is: nothing that can be publicly revealed.

I don't even care about the Mac version, I won't use it, I'd rather they direct their energy elsewhere. What I care about (and am somewhat allergic to) is raising expectations with an announcement and a timeline and then being silent and hoping nobody notices when that time comes and goes. I've had to deal with that too much in my life and I think it's incredibly disrespectful. A very simple "it's more work than we thought, sorry" would be fine in my book.

Don't get me wrong, I really love Sonar! I wouldn't be here and I wouldn't be using it so much if I didn't. I just think this kind of behavior is disrespectful and completely unnecessary.

I was literally about to post asking about Sonar for mac. In my studio I use a pc with Sonar however majority of our other computers are Mac. The other engineers and artists record on their pro tools or logic etc... then just export the stems to send me. Would be nice to at least have a basic recording version of sonar for mac so they could record on that and just send me the project bundles so we don't have to stem it out. I understand this is most likely a huge task and don't hold it against the Bakers for delaying the release. Id rather have a working alpha version than a buggy speedily released version.
I was simply curious as to when it would be coming, I think coming to mac can drastically spread their base. As most studios I go to always harp about mac ( I still prefer PC personally), which I could possibly turn them to Sonar.
