Can't Record Audio with ASIO - Sonar Professional

I can't seem to record any audio with Sonar Professional (2016.05) when using the ASIO driver. The entire program freezes the moment I arm the "record" button. My Sound Card is Asus Xonar DSX (All the drivers are up to date.) Using 24-bit recording, and Win7 64 bit OS.

Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks!

I am using a Asus Xonar DS PCI audio card in ASIO mode with Sonar Platinum 2017.1   I am recording at 48Khz 24bit depth and I have a total round trip latency is at 6.0 milliseconds. (input 2ms, output 4ms).  Playback and recording timing master is set to the Asus. Playback and Record IO buffer sizes are set to 512KB

With all of the above I have zero issues recording audio from an external source using this card.

I also have the motherboard's on-board realtek audio enabled for non Sonar related audio - I still have zero issues in Sonar.

Can you tell us a bit more about your system.  Ram, CPU and speed, OS, Windows update status, etc?

Thanks. Here's what I have, not too dissimilar to you:
    Windows 7 64bit fully patched, 16 gig ram .  Intel Core i5-4460 @3.2 GHz
    Video: Nvidia GeoForce 210
Sound card: Asus Xonar DSX card
Realtek audio is disabled. Internet always connected.
    Software
: Sonar Professional 64bit set to 24bit 44.1khz, ASIO mode.

    Rapture Pro, Strum GS2, Ultra Analog VA-2, Z3TA+ 2, Addictive Drums 2,
    All synths 64bit
My latency on ASIO is 10.1 msec in, and 20.1 out.
My I/O buffers are 2048 each; think that's b/c I was getting some distortion or something awhile back.

    thanks for any suggestions!

Have you ever been able to record or have you have this lock up from the get go?

This is going to sound harsh, but have you considered investing in a real audio interface?

As good (not harsh IMHO) as that advice is, the OP would want to try more things first.  There has to be a reason for the lock ups....  As he stated, his set up is very similar to mine (which I have had for over 2 years now) and I have yet to have a lock up while recording audio - and that is with a 6ms round trip latency.

If I was having this issue, and I was thinking about getting an audio interface, I would want to see if I could borrow one to make sure that what ever is causing the lock ups, it does not also happen with the new Audio interface. The original issue may still remain even with a new audio interface.

Yes, this has been from the get-go.  My workaround has been using WASAPI but figured I should really try to solve the ASIO.

WDM/KS works to record vocals through my VoiceLive Rack from TC-Helicon. But on audio, it will only record at 16 bits. (There was a 24 bit config setting update from Cakewalk, which works for only a few measures).

    thanks.

Please confirm you're using ASIO and not ASIO4All.

Yes, ASIO.  The other is not an option on my system.

Hi. Did you let Windows update your drivers or did you get them from https://www.asus.com/Sound-Cards/Xonar_DSX/HelpDesk_Download/ ?
    All the best.

There are 2 different places within the Control Panel / Manage Devices that need to be disabled. 1 Audio input and output. 2 Sound video and gamming. You can just uninstall them, they will always come back if you have no other options for sound. You may also have to disable them within the Control Panel / Sound

    Hay look,
Somethings are not locked in stone... lol 3/18/2019
