how to connect soundboard to pc?

im kinda new to this type gear, i've always done better with PC hardware.
But in any case i purchaced the EMU1820 and im using it w/ Sonar4. i also have an Audigy2 zs but don't use it for recording . i have to disable the zs in order to use the emu .everything is werking great , for the moment i've been recording alot of HipHop. The emu lets me rec 2 seperate tracks on to seperate mics ( Duh ).

I was recently offered a sound board to add to the set up. so that we can plug in more mic's , maybe use the soundboard instead of emu..but im not sure how to connect to the pc, only thing i could think of would be go from the soundboard to the emu to the pc. does this sound possible? is there a way?

im pretty sure i can do it this way but havn't tryed, was thinking that even if i could connect the sound board to the PC i won't be able to record multi tracks, or use an asio.

i hope what im trying to explain makes a little sence . i basicaly wondering what my options are, am i wasting my time thinking like this?
thanks for your input and help.

A standard mixer won't allow you to record anymore tracks than you were originally able to. You are limited to the number of inputs on your soundcard. What it does allow though, is the ability to connect more mics to those inputs. For example, if you were recording a drumset, you could mic all the drums and send the mix to the soundcard. There are a number of ways to route the signal depending on the board. You could go from the main outputs, sub outs, or monitor outputs. It depends on what you've got to work with. You send that "mixed signal" to an input on the sound card. If you have two inputs on the sound card you could send a mix to each by using 2 different outputs on the board.

    Hope this helps.

    thanx for your help.

i have found a way to use this board. for know it helps when more than 2 people want a mic . ie: for freestyles i can hand out as many mics as i want.
i use the 2 pre amps on the emu and then others on the board, i use main out r/l into e-mu r/l in. which lets me record anything on the board as a sepeate track. good stuff :).

what other kinda setups are there were you can use ie: a sound board with 8 mic imputs and record seperate tracks? or you need a sound card that has 8 imputs?

The EMU 1820 should have Optical Digital I/O which you could hook up an 8 channel I/O interface by using that connection.ie.MOTU mk3,Behringer ADA8000,Alesis etc..So if you have an 8 channel interface you can hook up 16 mixer and use the 8 bus outputs that are on a mixer.
What i do for drums, vocal and other instruments i sub mix before i record the tracks in the program.Because there would be less eqing to do in the program.
