Need help with automation

I recently updated to Sonar Plat 23.1.0 Build 22 and now my envelopes are behaving strangely.  I'll be editing an envelope by adding nodes and moving them, but then it just stops allowing me to add nodes or change parameters, and the W icon on the control bar gets a line through it.  When I right click on the track to enable write automation, it is grayed out.  Changing the write mode in the track info doesn't have any effect.  I don't remember having any trouble with the envelops before.  What am I doing wrong?
