A healthy Sonar forum 🍰

A healthy Sonar forum.

I happened to notice this morning that we had over 1000 guests on the forums (you read correctly,1000) along with 63 registered users.
So what you might ask?
My own observations suggest that there are more new people posting here along with many who have been members for quite a number of years but have only now started to post more regularly. Lots of folks drawn to Sonar life time updates.

There's no doubt that we are privileged to have a couple of prolific helpers (we know who you are) but there seems to be a trend toward greater involvement by lots of new members. It's really satisfying to see this side of Sonar’s forum growth. It makes for a far more harmonious community. Many folks are obviously finding their niche. There was a time I could just about predict who would provide the answers for particular problems but with so much β€œnew” input, that's getting harder to do. How great is that? Hey!

I believe Sonar’s popularity is on the rise and while many threads report problems, equally those problems are being solved largely by the forum membership. Sonar’s depth is just so great, who can know it all? Have you checked out the 2700 + page PDF Sonar reference guide? You need to do it.

Cakewalk has clearly undergone a tremendous rejuvenation in its focus on programming since Gibson took over. This is evidenced by the regular rock solid releases month after month. An incredible task I'm sure you'll agree.

I'm not going to mention any negative issues. Why? Well personally I can't do anything about any of Cakewalk’s short comings that have been, and continue to be discussed. BUT! I can do something about encouraging people to remain positive and supportive in my comments here. I have a bit to work on in that regard as I can get easily drawn into negativity.

It's only in the last 2-3 months that I'm back, (posting far less often than before), after having had a 3 months internet detox. I've done each monthly Sonar update but haven't made much use of Sonar except a cursory look at the time I've installed an update. That leaves me with about 5- 6 months of updates to get really familiar with. Recent posts (in an effort to help) will attest to the gaps in my current Sonar knowledge.

Despite the challenges of a company whose output has outstripped its ability to service that rapidly growing demand, Sonar has continued to develop in a very balanced, feature for fix methodology assuring that the core program remains stable. With the current Gibson backing, I think the future for Cakewalk and it's flagship Sonar, is bright and in good hands.

The forum is definitely the cream on top.

There's enough posts that ridicule and focus on the negative. I'd appreciate positive observations please. Thanks.

Mike you know me well. I also know you. We have seen it all. Your post is a wonderful one in which you note how good this forum is. Its only as good as the people that post here. We are lucky in having the most selfless people when it comes to offering help. The knowledge possessed within this forum is staggering. The accuracy is top notch. The willingness to help is unmatched.

Yes I am proud of this forum. I am proud to be associated with some of the finest people anywhere.  There are too many names to mention but think back when one of our treasured members passed away. This forum took note and did its part in trying to lesson the burden on his family. We don't see this on other forums. But then few other forums are as much like a family as we are.

Thank you Mike for posting your thoughts about this forum.

P.S. I was very glad to see you back. I had missed you.

Best
John

Great post!!  I usually pop in here a few times a day.  I try to offer help whenever I can, which is fairly rare since I'm the least techie guy on this forum.  I've always appreciated how those who really do understand SONAR are so willing to offer aid to folks like me without making is feel dumb.

Like many, I try to chip in with help when I can, but in my case that is far outnumbered by the times I've been helped out by others over the years. Sonar has been my one and only daw for the past 10 years, and it amazes me how people here are prepared to give oodles of their time to help others. I have no idea what the equivalent forums in Steinberg or Logic land are like, but I am constantly grateful to be part of the Sonar family.

I have learned more from this forum than I did from the docs.

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

YES!!!  EVERY problem that I've ever had with SONAR has been solved here.  I've only used support once, and this forum was able to sort me out before they did

I noticed that first post after your hiatus, Mike, and thought to myself "hmm, mudgel's back, that's good". I should have said so at the time but didn't, to avoid going off-topic. But this thread seems an appropriate opportunity to say welcome back, Mike. And to the noobs reading this: meet Mike, one of the good guys around here.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

This forum has been my lifeline many, many times.  Even when it's sometimes contentious, it's more often because people have discovered more than one way to skin a cat, and disagreements are more technical than personal.  I've seen much growth here, and as Sonar continues to improve, I expect to see more comradery in the future.

All the best,

A forum user here had a SONAR 4 release picnic in Denver that I went to.
We discussed things like the up and coming per-track EQ.
