I kinda have the same thing ... one day is allergies, the next it is sinus, the next it is a cold, the next it's a flu ... and the next it is the punacrud! The only thing I can do is sleep it off ... and I mean like 4 hour naps and 8 hours in bed later ... it's pathetic, but the only thing that works for me.

Pfft. Alembic Essence is $7500 new. In 1977 I paid $1000 for my Series I. And in actuality I paid $700 and traded my Ric 4003 for it. The bass was less than four moths old and that is why the guy sold it for half of the then retail price of $2000. He was bass teacher and collector of Fender basses. His student owned the Series I but found it "too long". IIRC the student was 14 years old. Must've had a rich father to pay $2000 for a bass for his son to learn on. According to one site my 1977 $1000 has the buying power of $4148.32 and yet a new Series I today would fetch $18,500. I'd say I get the better part of the deal, ya? BTW, I'm feeling much better today.

The inflation in prices in upper end instruments has gotten out of hand. That isn't to say that it wasn't hard-won by luthiers and teachers et al. I just think they're missing a niche for intermediate students who can't spend that much but can pay, maybe $1500 for a Ramirez or an alembic..e.tc The high end instruments could benefit from some deflation, IMHHO.

It's a very small company so they only make so many instruments and price them so that demand will match what they can or wish to supply.
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

According to Alembic's website they have a whopping 9 employees. I'm sure that fluctuates +/- .005 persons per 100/years.
