Pet Peeve...
Just logged in my Linked In account. They've redesigned things a bit haven't they? Even though I know that it's only natural for some of us to resist change at first and that we eventually get used to things, the current trend in web sites and apps design really doesn't agree with my tastes. It's like everything is being designed to facilitate illiterate people's life - big icons in place of descriptions and everything taking 100 times as much space as it used to. It is a very inefficient type of design, as you get less and less information at a glance and you have to click and scroll and maximize this and that to get to the info you're seeking. I am guessing that this is to accommodate people who access those sites with their phone. I just wish there was a way to access the "classic", light version. Most of those sites have apps anyways, so one has to wonder why won't they leave their website alone... In most case, I just do not get used to it. Even a year later, I cannot find a singe advantage the the way my financial institution redesigned their web site - what used to reside in a few square inches on-screen now and be neatly laid out, easily readable is now a click fest and requires me to navigate through a bunch of pop ups. Some days, I really hate the smart phone world we live in.

I noticed that too a while ago when I logged back in for the first time. On the other hand, a huge number of real estate agents and car salespersons seem to mistake Facebook for Linked In - these are among the most frequent unsolicited requests that I get. I don't see the point in sharing pictures of my dinner with those people... :P

The movie theater website here has become a disaster. It is easy to find everything at the site, except for which movies are actually playing and what time they are at. I curse at the screen every time I have to go on it to locate a movie. Who in there right mind would design a website that makes it difficult to find there only real product/ service.

It's not just the look of some of these new sites I don't like - sometimes the functionality is baffling. Some time ago I purchased an app called Todoist for my iPhone, it's one of those fully featured task management systems and there's also a desktop site you can use in conjunction with it. To this day I'm at a loss as to how to set up tasks and have them send me a text notification. The GUI is such that you never really know what's going on, the navigation between functions doesn't make any sense to me and indeed the whole thing is totally confusing. What makes it worse is that the desktop site seems to work differently to the phone app in many ways, and it's almost impossible to get worthwhile answers from their documentation because the trend these days seems to be "hey we don't need to provide instructions because our app is so simple (to everyone who worked on it, anyway)" And the flip side of the "sites that are too big and wasteful" problem is older sites and apps that seem to have been designed for the old 800x600 resolutions and never updated. I've recently been trialing some web apps to automate my business and I tested one that is actually very powerful in functionality, but it looks like it was designed in the days of DOS and everything is scrunched up in one corner of the browser. After an evening of trying to get to grips with it, I realized that I was squinting and had a headache. I put this problem to the developer over the phone and he didn't see the problem at all. I actually suspect that he's still using an old CRT monitor..... Another pet hate of mine is developers who constantly rearrange their GUI's and settings so that you never know where to find anything. Google are the absolute worst at this, as anyone in IT who has to deal with Google Apps will tell you. They never stop changing stuff and just when you've gotten used to one layout, boom, they've changed it again. Settings you use every day are now in different tabs etc. When you Google for the help documentation, you find that all of the results are outdated and refer to earlier iterations of the software. I find this a lot with YouTube, they are always changing the settings so Googling "How do I......" usually gets you nowhere.

Yep, that's pretty cool. Speaking of cool, have you seen Rain's studio lamps?

I was thinking that. If he ever bought a Les Paul Goldtop, he'd have to get a gold cat to match.
