Experiencing some crashes when saving.

So, I'm using Sonar X1 essentials on a solid running XP pro platform.  Off line, custom built machine, that has been rock solid with very few crashes (considering that it is windows) since it was built.

I started to work on a new project and had imported a number of waves for my song.  I realized that the structure of the song was not optimal so I decided, rather than to redo the tracks in total, I could simply set my grid to "measure", and edit..... cut, copy and paste my way to the song structure I needed.

With 6 tracks, and needing to move them all around, and wishing to save as much time as possible, rather than working on one track at a time, I selected all six tracks, split the tracks, moved to the next split point repeated the splitting process and so on until I had the project where I needed it. I played it to check it... perfect structure and no edit glitches.... click SAVE.....  and a window pops up telling me there was an error,  and the project can't be saved at this time. I click OK and Sonar shuts down.

I lost almost an hour of edits.  So I reloaded and got back to where I was.. well kind of...... I did a single split of 6 tracks and saved. It worked OK. I did another and it saved as well.  I went for the third and Sonar crashed again.

I ended up going back and reworking the tracks before I brought them into X1e.  After I did that, and didn't need to split/edit and save the 6 tracks, I was able to work just fine recording additional tracks in X1e and saving as the playback was happening.

I guess what I'm looking for in the way of answers is why X1e seems to have issues when I am using the split edit save when working on the tracks. Perhaps it was due to the fact that I was working on multiple tracks as opposed to one track at a time?  Just trying to figure this one out and find out what was happening to cause the crashes.  I recall having this happen in the past on other projects but I wasn't under a deadline so it didn't really create much of a problem.   Anyway... thoughts and ideas are appreciated.

You may have developed some disk errors.
The free hdtune has a surface test you can run.

Otherwise, open a command prompt and run chkdsk c: /r
(substituting your sonar data drive for c: if you have one)

This will clean up any file system issues and relocate bad or iffy sectors.
