Feel Your Mind (Revised Mix) - A BioMesh Production

I sent Mesh (our very own forumite) one of my compositions that seemed to lack that something and would benefit from his guitar prowess. I therefore give you the second BioMesh production - Feel Your Mind

Thanks bapu, I must admit that I found this particular mix challenging in ensuring that each instrument had its place without being drowned out.

Sssshhhh......don't let the guitarist see that. ......
     Thanks Daryl, me old mucker!!

Adrian composed this excellent bed of music which really inspired me, and although I had alternate melodies, this seemed to be a good fit.
The amp sim I used was Bias FX Pro and all the fx/tones were generated from within (in case someone may be interested in that sort of thing ).

I really enjoyed working on this and much credit to Adrian for putting everything together so well (I just plucked a few strings here and there).

Thanks Daryl. I will be going back and looking at one or two things based on some feedback I've had regarding the reverse cymbal into the chorus parts.

There is something wrong with the high end on this mix as it distorts in an ear-piercing way. I had to turn it way down to listen.

I sense a Mike Oldfield vibe in this. Sounds good, just needs a bit more work on the mix.

Thanks Dan. I have a very small list of things to go back and tweak, one of which is looking at the high frequency end. I think that I may have got carried away with the air band in my eagerness to lighten the mix.

nice composition, but that guitar in the first half is too loud, it's clipping I think or overdriving. And that reversed cymbal? at 3:21 for example is majorly over compressed, super sibilant I'm afraid. Those things should be easy to weed out, and you have a great chill piece here. . .

The electronic elements, the delay patches, the filtery things, all great!!!

I think her lead vocal could have just a hair less reverb perhaps, or add some more predelay so her words can escape legibly before they are washed into ether.

    I look forward to v2, it's a great start!

    cheers,
    -Tom

Finally getting around to listening to Feel Your Mind...

I'd just listened to your latest, so I thought I had my headphone level set comfortably. At forty seconds in I had to rip my earbuds out because the high frequency part, in particular, was so loud it hurt. I think Tom picked up on this too in his post. It happens again at 2:30... I think that effect could do with some serious taming Adrian.

The ending was a bit abrupt too and I thought I'd be listening to the effect tail fading out. But that may have been your intent there.

Other than that, this is a great piece of work and a marvellous collaboration.

    cheers

    Hi Adrian,

That is a much better mix, to my ears. Those cutting hi frequency parts have now been well tamed. I also downloaded the song too, which is slightly better quality at 320kbps MP3. Would have been nice to hear an uncompressed WAV but I know, from experience, that it takes a long time to upload high quality files (I only upload wave files now, even for twenty minute long tracks, but I don't mind the wait).

    cheers

Thanks Andy. I ended up changing the reverb entirely on the vocals to make them clearer and reworked the gain staging for the guitar tracks.

Lovely track, nice and chunky well balanced mix. :)
The snare is rather dry and feels a bit off in the intro, but works much better later in the song.

    Great work!
