Voices of the Mind

An electronic techno kind-of piece. I am not really well versed with the exact genres, so the purists can decide which one it is

The whole arrangement was initially built using the matrix, then produced and mixed as usual in the track and console views.
This is my first production using the matrix by the way, and I sure am happy with how it builds arrangements.

All comments are welcome and will be considered valuable.

This is really slick.  Only nit:   The intro is a little too long I feel.  Millenials have the attention span of a gnat.

Hey, this is well recorded and mixed.  Really like the slight swing in the groove and the sound of the bass.  Around 2m my songwriter brain was kickin' in as that's a really catchy background for a vocal on top.  Good job !!

Never really understood the need to put music into little box's of genre's, if the music makes my furry ears smile I do not need to know its box.

This made me ears smile, well recorded and constructed, cool claw tapping groove, pleasant furry ear candy.

Thanks David. I agree but it was kind-a deliberate as I wanted the track to grow and evolve to the full paced beats. I had started with a much shorter intro but it sounded like an abrupt build to full pace.

Thanks Allan. But to be honest, there was no recording involved at all. The vocals are simply some free sample riffs that I had in my arsenal which I mashed in with various effects.
Rest of the track is all original midi synth composed and programmed phrases & loops of instruments & beats from NI, SI-Drums and Z3ta2. The arrangement was fully done using matrix, then leveled and mixed in track view using Prochannel.

Thanks John. Very much the way I think. Never really start a music piece ever in terms of fitting into any genre. It just builds its way to whatever one may want to slot it into or not.

Very cool. No glitches in this matrix (see what I did there).
I must have a play with the matrix, I've never really spent any time with it.

Love this Ramesh! Could use a bit more bottom in the kick/bass, but other than that, I think it sounds fantastic.

I agree, fantastic. You've made a lot with just a little!

I don't know if you'd consider an add: a very high pitched string (violin or such, or synth string) playing an "E flat" way up top, holding it, sustained. Mixed in medium to low volume. Total background. It's hinted at in the intro (:19) but I don't think I heard it proper in the piece itself? Just an idea, which are like elbows, everyone having at least two, barring mishap.

Loved the chill ear candy throughout!

Thanks Dan ! Agree with your suggestion on the low end. Its just that my MS40 monitors probably give more colour to the low end so its getting over-estimated. The low end seems less prominent when I listen on my KNS-8400 headphones. But somehow I tend to get more influenced by the monitors. I guess time to rely a little more on the headphones or splurge on a better pair of monitors

Thanks Tom ! And I do appreciate your suggestion. Yeah the high pitched synth string you hear in the intro is possibly harmonics of the synth pads that I mixed in. But the fundamental freqs of the pads are themselves much lower pitched aimed at providing a subtle bed of pads, hence not much of that cuts through in the main part of the piece. Maybe a much higher pitched fundamental of the pads would do what you suggest

I really liked that...    I don't know the exact genre either but I don't much care.  Just a solid piece with a nice groove, a variety of tones and a clean open mix.    Great use of the Matrix too...
