Volume automation-write weirdness on an audio track; ghost nodes?

Hope someone can help... I'm trying to write volume automation on an audio track. I have a slider on my Novation MIDI keyboard mapped to a track volume slider in the console view. That's working fine. I manipulate my Novation slider, the DAW track slider responds great. I write-enable the audio track.... I start the transport to play the song... I ride the Novation fader during the song, bringing the track audio in and out... I can see it writing automation on the track's volume automation lane. Looks great. The automation nodes in the lane are snaking up and down as you'd expect.

When I'm finished. I stop the transport. I disable write, and out of nowhere, there are crazy instances of volume nodes going to "inf" and my track volume slider (when read enabled) is flying all over the place between what looked like the snaking volume chain I laid down and these ghost "inf" nodes. It does the same thing if I bypass the Novation and write volume automation with my mouse controlling the slider, only it's not quite as bad.

Would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions!
