Vague Help

It's been awhile since I've raised this issue, but it has come up again and needs to be addressed at some point.

Sonar help tells which tools to use but does not say where to find them.  There are many cases of this but here is today's example:

"Click the Edit clip tempo map button on the AudioSnap palette."

OK, where is the AudioSnap palette? (Silence)

Or press ALT+A, or it's under the Views menu.

It would have been helpful to you if there was a hyperlink to the relevant help page under AudioSnap. Maybe, hyperlinking everything in the help files would be a major headache.

But the answer is easily found either searchng the offline help or using Google.

I'm off to see the Wibble, the wonderful Wibble of Wobble

I hear ya Konradh.  I've spent hours trying to figure out where some feature is.  Most of the time it has been right in front of my face, but I didn't have a clue what it was.

I've experienced the same thing from time to time. I usually am able to figure it out, but it takes some additional head-scratching.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

I think it's the same with any large application and pretty much any operating system. Even the ones that are well documented still present the problem that you need to find the relevant bit of the documentation and when you have found it you often then need to search for another bit of documentation.

And whether you find it or not can often depend on the exact search term you use.

I think Sonar is one of the better documented applications, but I've certainly spent an hour or more trying to track something down in the help/manual before now. At least the information's usually there somewhere - the model of how not to do things was Windows 95 where the help troubleshooters consisted largely of "reboot" and if that didn't work then told you to "ask your systems administrator for assistance". But I am my systems administrator.....

    Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre.
Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.
