OK - here is song number three from the EP I'm trying to do - If, by Bread. (new mix)

(OK - I have had a few comments at another site that I needed to differentiate the two tracks on this sone. I recorded both tracks with the same guitar and effects, etc. So, I added a flange effect to the rhythm guitar. I think it sounds better, but not really sure.

Howdy everyone - I hope you are all doing well.

This is the third song I've done for a EP project I'm working on - I'm trying to do six ballad - songs I really like. The first one I did was Shanendoah the second was Till There Was You.

I know these songs are very simple tunes - but they are so difficult for me to do - so meticulious.

By the time I got done with this one - I had worked so hard on it, I thought that it turned out badly - I'm still not sure if it's any good - or just boring dribble. But, my wife just came in the studio and I played it for her - and she started crying - so maybe it's ok.

Anyway - here is my rendition of If. Thanks in advance to all of you that take the time to listen and comment.

Beautiful, Markus. I know you said the song is simple, but you've brought out the musical complexity, and it gives the listener a lot to think about. That said, I would have liked to hear fewer notes in those runs. But still, beautiful.

Very nice and simple, it does have that emotional quality about it. Personally I wouldn't change a thing on this one.

EP, great!  Your tones are always so beautiful.  I wish I could do that.  I want the EP!  I am sitting in Pacific Beach looking at the waves and this works really beautifully.  Udaman, partner!

eph - thanks - appreciate you taking a listen.

Larry - I understand what you mean by less notes - that's one of the hardest parts for when doing a song like this - playing fewer notes. I'm basically a blues player and alot of the little runs I do are all muscle memory things. I guess the hard part is for me to not do what I've been practicing all these years. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen and the positive comment.

bio - wow, you wouldn't change a thing - thank you.

synktron - the tone comes from the gibson es335 - the playing - well, I struggle with that. Thanks for taking the time.

Brother Warren - I hope you're having a good time at the beach. I appreciate you taking the time and appreciate all you've given to our music over the years - hopefully there is another one left in us.

Lynn, you make me laugh. I've had a couple of people suggest that I sing to these songs - if you had ever heard me sing, you would know why you make me laugh. Thanks bro.

daryl - you're such a great artist that your compliment really means a lot to me. Thanks so much.

That was really nice, Mark.   Just enjoyable to listen to.    Personally I like the runs, they give it a jazzy feel that seems to go well with the chord progression.

About the only minor mix nit I have is that in some of the stops the audio seems to fade quickly to zero instead of having that reverb ambience heard otherwise, if that makes sense.   But I could still listen to this multiple times which is really the important thing.

Hi Mark, beautiful guitar playing / music.

    Sounds great too imo.
Soundwise only minor nits I could hear was buzz from amp ? (sounds a bit sometimes like it gets power from an ungrounded electricitypoint, hear it best at the end of the song).
Persoanlly would try to spread the 'rythemguitar' to the side more (left and right), and keep the 'lead' guitar more in the mid...maybe then you keep a nice wide sound but without the left/right effect.
And would try a bus eq with a little bell curve of maybe 0.2db at say 40Hz or so, to give the whole song a more solid 'floor'.
Those are just things I thought of, minor nits and mix sounds nice.
you know how to lay a lot of emotion into your guitar playing !!!

Stevec - thanks so much. I tried to fix some of those stops. To be honest, the ones that stand out are probably the ones where I punched in. Thanks again for listening.

jamesg - hi there. I do like doing these - but I find they are kind of difficult to play - tough to play slow like that.

Sheanes - I put a new mix up which is spread a bit more - the mix is kind of a work in progress. I did put in a bus eq like you suggested - I think it warms sit up. Thanks for the comments - very helpful to me.

gonzo, thanks buddy - it's not you, but who is?

Well, it didn't make me cry, but I gotta' say that you really did a beautiful job on that tune.  Fabulous tone and perfectly played.  And the song itself is both sweet and melancholy at the same time.  Kudos, Mark.
