I generally like lo-fi sounds but enough of the overdone tape wobble

Just listening to this new track, I really love the arpeggios, they're beautiful, and I really like lo-fi production when it's done nicely for effect, but is it just me or is everyone going totally overboard with these tape wobble effects these days. I felt like it spoiled my enjoyment of the arps here. Boards Of Canada has a lot to answer for.

It's like any popular trend, IMO. it's great once, refined once or twice - then it soon becomes cliche. Formulaic chord progressions, vocoder/talk box, the Cher vocal effect, the Glitch/Stutter effect, the Dub step wobble, EDM rises/falls, I suppose it's easier to use something that you think works (even when it often no longer does) than to create something totally new.
now to find a great 303 bass sound for that bassline........

Thank God I don't hear the Cher Autotune sound much these days. That one was horrific.

See - it's probably time to bring that one back. The other thing about cliche is they don't last long.

No ... I think it's time to introduce an auto tuning / tape warble inducing plugin giving you the best of both worlds.  Kind of like transferring a Cher tune to tape and then playing it back on a machine that needs serious servicing.
