Plugin Question - CA-2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier

Hi Guys,
 
A straightforward question...
 
CA-2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier
How does this plugin differ from a compressor?
 
I've essentially been using it as a compressor, but is this what it is designed for?
