Goodbye Mum
I was just reminded that 5 years ago today we buried my mother ( luckily she was already dead) after a couple of years enduring Late Onset Dementia. Mine wasn't a "huggy" family, we didn't often express our feelings. But I remember a phone call where something felt odd. Very unusual for me, as the call was ending I told her I loved her. She responded in kind. It turned out to be the last lucid conversation I ever had with her. I think that memory kept me sane when she passed. It inspired a song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLTtlvsXQmU

That's a wonderful tribute Matt. Some excellent lyrics in there, a well performed song with a simple but effective composition. Those low backing vocs ('I think I knew') hit just at the right time, perfect. The ending is just right too.

I lost my mom 27 years ago, and I'm still not over it. I wish I could write a tribute like this. Well done!

Wonderful comparison between first day of school and saying goodbye to finally saying goodbye your mom. It's an experience none of us ever forget. Really liked this. I was tearing up.

Interesting, dreamy atmosphere. Poignant, heartfelt lyrics. Very classy ......kinda late 60's in my ears.......loved it.

Matt Yeah, I teared up a bit there. So good to have music express your feelings. I liked those really long notes at the end which builds up the anticipation toward the final "goodbye".

Very well done. I lost my Mom to similar disease progression, 11 years ago. Your lyrics are great. Your voice evokes some really cool British singers but stands great on its own. Thanks for sharing this. -Tom

Wow, those are some great lyrics... While I don't have any first-hand experience with this disease, I can certainly identify because of how your presented the topic; even with the music itself seems to support it just right.

I appreciate the comments. It just occurred to me - this song is a favourite with my female friends. My mother would slap me if she knew I'd used her death as inspiration for writing a song that gives women that "oh, he's so sensitive" tear!
