That was a great post from Kenny.  And yes it is so true in that when one is expressing themselves and are feeling really good about it while they are doing it and also having not to perform in a certain way for the reasons that they are being paid or told to do it a certain way, it is hard to beat.

And so I probably had no right to suggest that Kenny do anything a certain way either.  The more I listen to this the more I hear Kenny himself playing this the way he wants to.  He did make changes and put the head in and I certainly felt that was a good move.

And it is on all instruments and bands too that people are so recognisable. And when that happens it is because they are doing there very thing that Kenny is suggesting in that post.  I can even hear Tangerine Dream (electronic music) after 3 seconds and it is because of the way Edgar Froese does things.  Jarre as well.  But yes drummers too, piano players and of course guitarists sax players, all instruments.

When I was working with Frank Gamble many years ago we were in a country band together and he was just playing the style beautifully.  Any of you would have thought he was one of the most tasteful country lead players on the planet.  He then joined Jean Luc Ponty after that and finally Chick Corea's Electric band.  Now as one could imagine he is playing Chick's music in those situations and very well might I add.  The soloing does give him some freedom but all the music is built around Chick Corea's tunes. Which he loves doing of course.

Recently though I heard him playing with his own band, playing his own material with his singing wife and it was like, this is the Frank Gamble!  He actually said to me that this was one of the nicest bands he has played in.  (He probably likes it the most, I sense that)  Now considering who he has played with that is a pretty big statement.  But I understand it because the music is all Frank and the arrangements and the soling, everything.  I can feel his playing energy almost direct from him to the audience.  And interesting too is that he is holding back while doing all this.  It is very musical and melodic.

Many of us playing live though are out there performing a certain job and I think there is nothing wrong with that either.  The trap is to hate it and not enjoy it and that is all just bad.  The audience will see it in your body language and feel it too.  The trick is to resign yourself to the fact that it is what it is and you might as well make the most of it and really enjoy it. e.g. I have played in a tribute band for example and really loved the experience.  It was a real eye opener.  Not only that, I learned so much about the artists that we were paying tribute to. (Presley and Orbison in my case, the band was stellar and I just loved every gig! The audience loved it too and after all, that is our real job. to look after them.)

If you can do it while playing your own music your own way the even better I say)

Jesse Screed
And there will be peace in the valley.

I admire the way Kenny and Jeff were able to find common ground.  The exchange was an example of two men working it out through conversation rather than coming to blows.

Excellent!

Wookiee
I enjoyed this Kenny, thanks for sharing.

Thank you Wookiee
I'm glad you made it over here and I enjoyed talking with you over at your thread ...

Beagle
Kenny - I tend to not listen to things put up as "work in progress" just because I'd rather listen to songs which are near finished or finished and just need tweaking on mix stuff.  just my preference, I'd rather wait until things are further along.

glad I didn't wait on this one!  this is just awesome guitar playing as usual from you!  wish you'd put more stuff up!  I love it!  keys add a nice touch.  mix is pretty darn good - very well balanced.

nice work my friend!

edit;  I had not read any of the previous comments before posting mine - I normally do that as well.

I do stand beside Jeff in his right to say what he thinks about anything that's posted, good, bad or indifferent.  the original poster, however has no obligation at all to incorporate any comments made by anyone if he/she doesn't want to or disagrees.

I'm glad it's working itself out between everyone involved, tho.  that's the true spirit that I love about this songs forum!

Hi Reece ,

Yes, as we all know , this forum is so diverse with the level of talent we have here .
We have members that will only post album ready music . And then we have members that will post the music that they create because they have a desire to share it and have it heard ...
Often times the only reward is posting in the spirit of just hanging out in a virtual world and listening to a tune  ..

I get what you are saying about listening to works in progress ...
It can be real hit or miss listening experience listening to one depending on who is posting the work in progress in the first place ...
Where do I fit in with all of that ? Somewhere down the middle of the road I guess ...

I'm very happy you decided to give this tune a listen I'm also stoked that you enjoyed my guitar playing on this.
This all means a lot too me .

I'm doing things a lot different here .This song is a turning point for me on many levels ...not so much as a guitarist ...more along the production end of things ...I'm starting to get a little better at it on that end ...
I'm using and integrating my playing out and giging hardware before I even hit the box ....
Also some of the production techs I have been trying to learn for years I'm starting to get a little better at ....finally LOL

Yes, I wish I would put out some more music myself ...Let me see what I can do about that ...

Sure Reece , I get what you are saying when it comes to members suggestions , crits and feedback concerning the music that gets posted ....in this thread yes I did come off a tad defensive when I didn't have too ...
Live and learn .....
My song ain't the one that's a work in progress I'm the one that's a work in progress

nice talking with you my friend ,
all the best,

Kenny
