New Song!
This is a revision of a song I wrote in 1986, now with lyrics. It's a duet about a couple that met working in a bar and they realize that they love eachother. In the weeds is a phrase we waiters and waitresses often use to mean *out of control*, like when there's a slow kitchen but hungry customers. Maybe you'll start tipping better after hearing this! Enjoy! https://soundcloud.com/da...heweedswithyou-revised

Great song well presented David. My only nit, maybe take both vocals down in the mix slightly.

You the same guy??? :) Hey I like this song, there are some subtle jazz chords I think stuck inside this pop progression. That's a good thing, they totally work. It's all recorded very well! Vocals are a treat. I just kept waiting for Left Field to come in, the Avant Garde Gotcha, but it never did! That's your new band name, btw. No charge. I hope those two star-crossed bar dwellers get together soon before T. cuts their social security. cheers, -Tom

Hi Tom, Thanks for listening. I write in all styles. I have a metal piece I'll post some day. The chords are mostly pedal tones, which you know I'm sure are commonly used in jazz. (they're notated as like C/D or G/B). Thank you taking the time to listen.

Well I've looked up the new word, as I've never come across someone discribing the voice in a song/mix as being supervenient, to answer the question of the vocals being a little high in the said mix ... Good song though and enjoyed it thanks

At the end of country music that I like, nice melody. As others have mentioned something needs to be done to the mix of the vocals, particularly the female vocal. Maybe not just the levels, it my just be my computer speakers but certain frequencies seem to too prominant and some EQ is needed.

Nice song, well performed and captured, but I agree the top end of the female vocal needs a little taming to take the sharp edge of it, just some gentle softening.
Thanks for sharing.

That was nice, David! Other than the vocal freqs as already mentioned, the song itself is really solid and the performances/arrangement are right there with it. The modulation towards the end gave it a nice lift. Is that you singing?

nice tune eph, it's a great effort.... i don't hear this as country at all. it sounds like pure pop arrangements to me. i agree about some of the vox sections being too loud, they just stand out too far... when mixing a song like this, where the vox is featured, i like to find the loudest part of the song, with the loudest vox going on, make THAT level be correct, then place a volume envelope, automate the vocal level peak there, and work backwards... finding the lowest vocal level where it really needs to be louder, and ride that fader (envelope) with the automation by bringing it up to the pre-determined LOUDEST level... as you go along, you then will not collectively let the vocals get louder than the LOUDEST mix level you have already established.. this is WAY better than trying to govern a vocal mix with a compressor. but choosing the BEGINNING starting point of levels is key.

More slide guitar! :) I like this song. Great mix. Female vocal just a little too loud at first, but by 3minutes it seems fine. Maybe just an eq issue. I hate those. Probably not a volume issue when I think about it. Yeah man, great song.

David, I really enjoy your music - the vocals on this are just fantastic - a lot of character - both male and female. The mix just seem perfect to me - love this tune.

thanks Glyn! Yes, the vocals are too prominent. I've mastered with Landr and it sounds a little better. Thanks for your keen observations.

Thanks for the feedback Steve. Not me singing. My voice is more poppy than country. I have to experience Nashville vicariously.

Thanks Supareels. It might have been a stretch to use supervenient. I didn't mean for it to be philosophical at all, it's mostly meant to mean unexpected. Almost in the same way would use vis a vis. The male voice viz the female voice, etc. Sorry for the confusion.
