Anderton "Sandbox" tip - buzzing instead of playback - Back again in 201702 upd. 3

This started when I was using Craig Anderton's "Sandbox" tip.
 
I have two projects open. I am working  in one, then click on the other one and hit play (spacebar).
Sometimes, instead of the tracks playing, I hear a loud buzzing.
If I stop, then start again, it will play normally.
 
IIRC, this started in Kingston.
When I reported it back then several people confirmed this behavior, including (I think) scook
 
The speculation was it might be a buffer being looped and never getting started on the rest of the tracks.
 
I have SPlat 201702 update 3
Windows 7 64
Back then I think I tested on a Tascam US1800, US1641 and a Cakewalk/Edirol UA-25EX.
Now I have a Roland OctaCapture.
Using ASIO mode in each case.
 
Edit: I see in Craig's book version, he added that this can happen!
A proper fix would be great.
