CPU Core Parking on WIN7
Hi All,
WIN7 64 bit, Intel i7, 8 core CPU. Noticing 4 of my CPU cores are "parked" (1,3,5,7) when I view the Resource Manager. I've seen the old post on this forum about updating a value in the Registry (which I'd rather avoid) to use all 8 cores - but there's also some free software on-line called "Peak Control Free" that adjusts CPU Core parking.
Anyone familiar with this software?

which version of sonar ?
you might be seeing an effect of plug in load balancing.

Im not familiar with that software, but I have i7 6 core, in preferences/audio/config file, ThreadSchedulingModel (4 up from bottom of list) I believe should be set at 2 (or I have it set there), also using Sonar load balancing was causing me issues when I first tried it so havent used it again, I forget exactly, it was like a year ago, and I didn't need load balancing it as it is always pretty balanced between the 12 cores showings (i.e., with 6 threads).

If you mean parkcontrol free then yes it does work, is safe and very simple to use.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I did mean "ParkControlFree."
I'm using Sonar Pro 2016.12. But it's not really a Sonar issue.
I notice 4 of my cores (on an 8 core i7) are always parked.
Surprisingly, when running SONAR or PT, there is some activity showing on the parked cores. Not sure why/how...
But with SONAR I see peaking on core 1 with the Performance Module set to System Performance.
Thought running that ParkControl software might unpark all my cores and stop the peaking on core 1.

I’ve been using ParkControl for 2 years. Definite improvement in spreading out CPU load. Love it. I’m on Win 10/64. YMMV.
