SOLVED, THANK YOU LANDR??
hello everyone, i just discovered "landr". i downloaded the software, however, in the signup process i keep getting told "username is taken" needless to say i tried many different names somehow they all seem to be taken. does anyone know anything about this and is it even worth my time? thanks so much. jp

does anyone know anything about this and is it even worth my time?
The comments I've seen and heard have not been favorable. After all, it's an algorithm doing the mastering, not a person... with ears. If you're not one to rely on second hand information, maybe try one song with LANDR.and see how it goes. I have seen some positive comments about Aria, but it's still automated mastering.

It's like using Auto Correct in a Photo editing program.. Sometimes it looks better......
I think it costs money so that was all I needed to know about it.

For a quick master to listen to in your car, it is fine.
If you need something more detailed and professional, that it will not be.
But with that said, I have had decent results.

I tried it out on a few tracks some time ago and it's algorithm applied the same loudness limiter and everything else to all the tracks that just wasn't musical in any way. I instantly demanded a refund and got one. It is not a substitute for proper mastering and with the tools provided in Splat, you can do a better job.

If you are looking for quick and easy results, try the Greg Wells MixCentric from Waves. Again, not a substitute for the real thing but works really well on some songs.

as usual, great advice from you guys.
i actually had signed up with this, i didn't remember (what a surprise). so i tried the free version and it sounded ok, sort of. however, i mastered the same track using boost 11 and (i think) got better results. also, using the higher end landr seems to be pricey, not as much as a person with ears. i don't know yet, i'll try it for a bit and see what happens.

Lurssen Mastering Console is quick and easy.
I prefer something else, but LMC is pretty good.

It will take some practice, and there are some who believe you shouldn't master your own material, but you can get pretty close to mastering quality with what you have. If you're interested in DIY mastering, a good place to start is with ProChannel presets. There are several there for mastering. Add in LP MB and/or LP EQ as needed, and (optionally) Tape/Saturation/Harmonics/Imaging effects as part of an FX chain. Put Boost 11 (or one of the other limiters) at the end of your chain. Craig Anderton is working on some DIY mastering content, but it's still a couple of months away, and is expected to be part of the new eZine launching in May.
