Routing instrument tracks
Apologies if this double posted: I edited the post and it seems to have disappeared when I saved it.
This seems like it must be something simple, but I can't figure out how to do this.
I recorded a softsynth instrument track tonight. Electric Piano (Lounge Lizard). I decided I'd like to create a layer with another softsynth, so I cloned the track. This did not create a second softsynth(expected), so I inserted another softsynth(FM8). I tried to rewire the cloned track 2 to route midi to FM8 by going into the track options with track two selected and selected FM8 for MIDI output using the dropdown menu there. So far so good - it seems like FM8 is now being triggered by the events in Track 2. At least: now I hear both LoungeLizard and FM8 playing the same notes. A few mutes later, I realize that Track 1 is now routing to nothing (it's silent) and Track 2 is somehow triggering both LoungeLizard and FM8, and the volume controls on Track 2 are likewise controlling both synths.
I have no idea how this happened, and I have no idea how to see what the state of the routing is within the instrument tracks (??) ...
I wound up in a state where the routing is unclear and couldn't figure out what to do (copout: I realize I could probably just split to audio/midi tracks and see this, but it seems odd to have to split and recombine just to adjust routing). Did I miss a control somewhere or is this the tradeoff for the simplified instrument tracks?
To be more concise:
1. How should I go about layering a few softsynths from one track's midi events? (clone & reroute copy OR insert new and copy track events OR ??)
2. How do you examine or change the routing on an existing clip/track to go to a different softsynth?
