Interesting, I updated my studio with no issues a few days ago however I just updated my laptop tonight and noticing Sonar is extremely laggy all of a sudden. Laggy like I move my cursor around the screen and it doesn't switch to the right tool and trying to navigate is like seeing a video that keeps freezing up. I wonder if its related.

These types of problems never seem to affect all PC's. It seems that there is always the possibility that changes only affect certain configurations. That's probably why the update got released by the MS testers. I usually wait a few weeks before updating, to let MS fix any discovered problems and re-issue the updates. And always make a full system image before updating, so a rollback will be painless, if needed. I looked at the big list of updates this month and there were several updates that I would shy away from, until certain they work OK. Anytime I see updates to Windows kernel-mode drivers, the Windows kernel, or anything like that I think twice. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4013429/windows-10-update-kb4013429

+1 I'm still on Win 8.1, and wouldn't feel safe without my regular backup images. In fact, backup images have been saving my bacon for about two decades now. Given Win 10's rather quirky nature with updates, the first screen of the installation should read: "DON'T EVEN THINK OF INSTALLING THIS UNTIL YOU'VE DONE A SYSTEM IMAGE!". And no, folks, System Roulette, er, I mean, Restore, doesn't count!

Yup! I do a monthly cycle now. Take one image before updating (I do Windows and Splat updates around the same time). Then update. Take a second image with the updates applied. 1. If an update related problem is discovered, roll back to image #1. 2. If updates are good, but something bad happens to Windows later during the month, roll back to image #2.

So far, no problems with any Win 10 update, including the latest. I even have the advanced Win 10 "Insider Preview" (beta) version (on dual boot) and I have Sonar installed on that and it works OK.

An update on my previous post. I now have the "Creators" edition on my Insider's version (dual boot with regular Win 10 Pro for my production). No problems with the Creators edition, Sonar runs OK, Latency Mon shows no problems, etc.

Good luck, I hope it's OK! If not, try to start Windows in safe mode and uninstall the update, then run system restore to a restore point taken prior to the update. That's the reason I take a Windows boot disk image at least once a month.

Yes that was discussed over in the Sonar forum. That update is mandatory if you have done the previous win10 update as it broke functionality related to mp3, mp4 and Sonar browser with mp3

that's why I keep the main DAW offline and only update after certain periods ... with Sonar it easy to wait and install a little later, but with win10 when you go for updating it gives you all thats new (including the latest crap), so can I select only the settled down proven-to-work update content?

If you have Win 10 Pro, you can use Local Group Policy Editor ( gpedit.msc from the run box) to set automatic updates to "off". Once you have done this, you will need to click on the "Check for updates" button to see any new updates. The only thing, is that this will still bring the whole pile rolling down the chute, but at least you know when it's coming, LOL!!! For example: Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > “Configure Automatic Updates” “If the status for this policy is set to Disabled, any updates that are available on Windows Update must be downloaded and installed manually. To do this, search for Windows Update using Start.” What I do first before I check for updates, is run a little relatively off the radar Microsoft utility called "Show or Hide Updates" *(wushowhide.diagcab). This runs a check for updates (without downloading any), and you can then tick off boxes for any updates you wish to hide from Windows Update. I usually hide any device driver updates, or Silverlight, for example ... or any other known bad updates waiting for a fix. That way when I check for updates, I only get what I want it to see. *Tutorial for wushowhide "Show or Hide updates": https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8280-hide-show-windows-updates-windows-10-a.html

interesting, this "Show or Hide Updates" tool reports a number of driver updates which do not show up e.g. when queried for in the device manager. how come ...???

That's a good question. Mine looks about the same. I hid 'em all. My first rule is to only get your drivers from your system or hardware OEM, and never Microsoft, unless it is a peripheral like a mouse, keyboard, printer, or something like that. The Intel stuff should come from your mobo manufacturer, unless it's end of life and you can get it direct from Intel instead. If it ain't broke, it probably don't need fixin' Graphics and audio drivers should come from their respective sources. I don't trust Microsoft to match up my system hardware ID with some database somewhere and decide what drivers I should be running. Arrggghhh!!!
