Quick Question on Cakewalk Command Center with Sonar Platinum

Hello,

I am new and interested in getting Sonar Platinum and have a question below.  My last Cakewalk program was Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. So I go way back and you have vastly improved since those days.

I am just a little confused with the Cakewalk Command Center program. Once I would get Sonar Platinum installed and doing normal running, do I have to go through the Command Center to run Platinum each time?
Or is the Command Center program just to get installs, updates, registering for Sonar Platinum.

I assume you dont need the Command Center Program once Platinum is installed to do normal running, but thought I would ask.

thank you,
Dave

The primary functions of the Command Center are installation, activation and maintenance of Cakewalk products. SONAR may be run from the Command Center but it is not required. There is no need to have the Command Center running while running SONAR.

Cakewalk Command Center can be used to install, update and authorise Sonar Platinum and many other Sonar products.  However, it is not required to actually run Sonar Platinum.  The installation creates start menu and desktop shortcuts.

You also have the option of logging on to your "My Products" page on the Sonar web site and downloading the individual installation packages from there. Some sonar products must be installed through Cakewalk Command Center so that they become properly authorised. Rapture Pro is an example of such a product.

The Cakewalk Command Center, however, makes it easier to manage your Sonar products, especially if you have made many recent purchases.  Note: Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 would not be presented in Cakewalk Command Center or on your "My Products" page.

You can also configure Cakewalk Command Center to define where the install files get downloaded to and you can also define the location of your Sonar content (click on cog, top right of the CCC GUI).  You might want to set these locations before you commence any installs - especially if your system drive is an SSD. Otherwise you will find it filling up real fast.

    Hope that helps

Thank you both for your replies and added info on the CCC GUI. Thanks for the heads-up, I do have a SSD for my C Drive.  Yes I wouldnt think my old Pro Audio 9 program would be listed anywhere.  I still have the install disks and still have it running on my old XP system.

    Anyway, thanks again,

What about installing Platinum over X2 Producer? Would I need to uninstall X2 first?

Thanks in advance. I will do more research.

Unless you are really low on hard drive space,  I would just leave X2 installed and just install Platinum.

If you do choose to uninstall X2 first, make sure you don't have any projects that rely on X2 specific plugins.

It would be OK. No need to uninstall X2 prior to installing Platinum. Each version of SONAR installs in a separate directory. The shared utilities and plug-ins that are overwritten are backward compatible.
