Sonar Platinum & MOTU 1248

I have one - love it.   Takes a bit of digging in to configure the 1248 for zero latency monitoring, but theres a few articles on MOTU's web site to help figure it out.  That's the ONLY little trick I needed to wrap my head around.  In fact, once I GOT routing and mixing figured out,  barely look at the little hoober doober - because its all under web app control.  Before I startup SPlat, I start up the MOTU web app and toggle back and fourth between Cakewalk and web app.   I haven't touched a switch or a knob on the device in a year now.  
 
I have kept up to date with firmare for both the 1248 and the MOTU AVB switch.  I remember a small problem where I had the 1248 updated and didn't do the update on the switch, but once I brought it up to date, the network and and 1248 have functioned flawlessly.  I would suggest that you update to the latest firmare and pc drivers. 
 
I have run it both with USB2 and Thunderbolt.   USB2 works just fine to start.  You will probably want to use both the USB2 and Ethernet connections.   The Ethernet connection allows you to do firmware updates and accesses the web app directly. 
 
I like that every outboard knob is controllable through the browser web app - big plus to me.  I like the onboard compressor and eq that you can use in the chain before the daw.  I like the Sabre32 converters.  The preamps are clean.  As you are setting the gain structure, the front screen changes to show a single channel input, horizontally for easier visual recognition - a nice feature.    The asio drivers work flawlessly on my setup.  I think you are in for a treat, at least I hope your experience is as good as mine has been.

Let us know how you go cause I`m getting myself a Motu 624 avb and the software ect are the same as the 1248.

I can confirm every word. Same experience here.
 
BUT definitely apply latest firmware if not installed yet and grab the latest drivers. AND learn the routing options - don't be frustrated if you reach a point in your early ventures where you don't hear anything. the unit is not broken, you just messed up the routing ;-) just recall a routing template and take it from there. make your adjustments and save it - you'll soon love all the options.
