Loop Question

Hello I'm very new to the forum but I've been using Sonar since ProAudio9 days. My question is about loops. I have been using Drum loops ever since they have been available first and foremost because for me they are way easier than keeping a drum-set in my little recording studio, that said I have also found that using other instrument loops in my productions has payed off by adding spice where spice is needed. (After My Intro Drivel) Question: I would like to create my own loops for use by me or for sale etc.. I've noticed that when I place the drum loops or instrument loops I purchase into cakewalk audio folder they can be previewed at their current tempo or a little faster without to much pitch shifting which is cool and very useful when building a composition. When I try to build a loop such as a mandolin chop in a certain key  and place it in cakewalks audio folder it plays all flammy and weird. I made a test the other day and I recorded a guitar chop (straight chop pattern in the key of Gmaj) In Ableton and I saved it as a mono track, I then pulled it into Reaper and I could run the tempo up from its starting BPM without much pitch shifting actually it worked really well. I then took the same audio file and placed it into cakewalks audio folder and set the host tempo to it's BPM and Flammy results ???? I turned off the follow host tempo and it played fine I tried to speed the sample up with the host tempo and no luck until i hit about 50 bpm higher. The Drum and Instrument samples that I buy can be used in cakewalks preview at host tempo just fine as long as they are set at a tempo that is the same or greater that the sample starting bpm. I apologize for the lengthy burst of insanity but curiosity has got the best of me. What method are they using that cakewalk sees in a sample to be able to preview it at its current tempo or higher without problems but if I try to make an audio sample and preview it at different tempos it doesn't work in cakewalk is there a setting i'm missing etc.... any info on this subject is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

It is hard to read posts that lack structure. Please consider a little more white space in future posts.

What you are looking to do is create "acidized" wav files. "Acidized" wav files contain beat and pitch information. To create and save "acidized" wavs in SONAR use the loop construction view. After creating your loops do not use the SONAR export function, use the "Save Loop" option in the Loop Construction view Clip menu in order to retain all the loop data.

Still having problems with loops previewing at host tempo without sounding like flammy crap even after saving them with the loop construction tool.

Creating loops is a skill and an art. I've written numerous articles on how to create loops from scratch. Probably the most comprehensive one is this one that was published in Sound on Sound. Also go to Harmony Central and search on

Plenty of articles will pop up, like this one.

Here's one on getting started with loops. And how to create loops from an audio file (item 10 is of particular interest to SONAR users).

If you don't care about following tempo or pitch, there are other ways to create loops that minimize flamming. Also, note that commercial loop libraries are no guarantee of proper editing for stretching with either Acidized or REX files. One of the many reasons I use SONAR is because I can edit the loops in the Loop Construction window and fix sloppy editing.

If something's not clear, circle back. There are quite a few fine points about looping.

Mr Anderton, I would love to see a youtube video of you creating a loop in the loop construction view in platinum that would be cool! I had a listen to your youtube channel and became a subscriber good music! Your style reminds me of the artists that I hung out with in college in the early eighty's, It's good to hear creativity at it's finest!
Thanks

Well gee, thank you so much and thanks for subscribing. I really do need to make more videos. I am continuing to refine my studio setup with an eye toward making it more efficient for video creation. I won't have a video done any time soon, but doing more videos is on my to-do list.
