One Of The Hands Down Dumbest Things I've Ever Done- According To Me

I was having a lot of trouble getting a decent stereo image in my mixes, so I think WTH?

I'm panning all my tracks, experimenting with mono/stereo tracks. I went into the panning laws preferences and tried every one of them. Went into my interface software and sure enough I had them panned and I had audio on my stereo channels.Looked at all my plugs to see if one of them had me locked in mono. Dicked around endlessly with M/S soloing each side and track. It all sounded the same.

I went online and started to search my interface to see if I had overlooked something. Lots of people have had the same problem. My interface has a very small lock button in the control software and apparently if it isn't locked you're in mono all the time. No wonder I couldn't seem to get a decent image. DUH!

I'm still trying to decide which panning law I like best.

Yea. Hard to find lock buttons. They can suck. I had two recent experiences with hardwired lock buttons. One was with a USB interface for flight sim pedals. The pedals were not responding exactly as they should in the flight simulator. Took a family of brothers to finally see there is a button on the USB interface that switches between flight-mode and car-sim mode,. I never knew the thing existed because there were no instructions. But problem finally solved.

Recently my mother's ~10-year old microwave stopped heating items. This unit is modern in the sense of having LED display and tap buttons and such. First thing was to unplug and reset the unit figuring maybe some setting in the electronic internals got set in error. Nothing. Still no heat, although the unit was running. Checked the internet and indicated this issue is usually a diode or capacitor gone bad. Pretty much gave up hope considering new units aren't overly expensive combined with the age of this unit. Different family members also checked it out. Finally one of my brothers noticed near the bottom of the unit is a hard-wired "Browning" switch. It's either pushed-in or pushed-out. Power-down/reset of the unit does not affect this switch. 'Browning' activated affects the units heating properties. So a simple turn-off (pushed-out) of the feature solved the issue. Problem is that this button location just doesn't fit-in with the normal work flow of the unit. What a pain, but problem finally solved.

Of course after figuring these things out, you feel kind-of dumb. Like it should have been obvious all along.

Broken pencils are pointless.

I already have this naturally cos my left ear is vastly more deaf than my right one. If I plug one of those into my right ear, total silence omg its sooo nice.

But I cant do precise panning / volume controll :(

This one time at band camp, I couldnt find the power button to turn the apple mac on.

Im like touching it all over and thinking 'wheres the power button?'.

The technician had gone for a break, so I started spamming the entire music class' numbers that I had with desperate pleas for help on how to turn the macs on.

The power button was on the back. I became a laughing stock and the joke of the class.

This would almost have been the dumbest thing I ever did, but then I went and purchased a guitar, took it with me to music class, I mean, band camp, and tried to learn twinkle twinkle little star and couldnt and I got laughed at some more. This was even worse than not being able to turn a mac on.

This is why I now want to see every apple mac and guitar burn.
