Where's my thread?

I just posted a thread with a running commentary on my "progress" in solving a problem. I worked out the problem and went to the original post and added "solved" to the title. The thread seems to have disappeared. Is that a WAD? I see another post there with "solved:" in its title and that is still there.

Hey, the exact same thing happened to me yesterday. I edited the title and put "solved" in square brackets at the end and POOF...vanished.

Weird. Probably poltergeists. Maybe try putting [Solved] at the beginning instead of the end?

The spam blocker sometimes deletes a post after a user edits it even though the original post was allowed. When the spam blocker deletes the first post, the entire thread is deleted.

Both threads should be back now.

OK. Yeah I posted a lot of posts quickly, so it could have been seen as spam. But another guy or two had the same thing.

Is there thing where putting "Solved" in the title will kill a thread?...Or was I right and it was my thrashing about?

Hi! I'd like to ask some help, as I'm having this problem!

Last week I tried to reply to a post, and after a few times I noticed I was trying to paste an image whose link was from another forum. So I excluded it from my post and problem was solved.

But today I tried to reply to a thread I started and it was ok, but when I tried to edit, it disappeared! : /
Also I see my post numbers had increased, but my posts don't show.

Thanks in advance!

Same just happened to my post about the plugin scanner. I had just edited it so the title read [Solved] and say thanks but when I saved it, it just disappeared! Edit: it's reappeared again!

I have also had new threads disappear, when I edited the title of the post after posting.

Interesting, I thought it was a forum bug... What does the forum spam blocker trigger on? Anything special one should avoid?

Are we/Cakewalk positive it's the Akismet anti-spam software that deletes the forums posts? They probably keep a log of deleted posts that a Cakewalk/forum admin could check!

Yes. Posts aren't actually deleted, they are just flagged as "don't show". Any "deleted" post can be easily restored by an admin or host.

With few exceptions, Aksimet is entirely responsible for such actions and there is no human involvement. Sometimes users report spam threads/posts that Aksimet didn't catch, so we have to manually get rid of them. More often, posts go away and we have no idea why. Aksimet works in mysterious ways. It does not tell us its reasons.

Whenever I come across a post deleted by Aksimet, I open it to see if there was any reason for it to be removed. If there isn't, I just quietly restore it. I do this several times a day, as do all the other hosts. It's a PIA. We wish Aksimet would smarten up, but there's nothing we can do because it is designed to be an independent, self-learning AI.

Despite our complaints about Aksimet's false-positives, though, I have to admit that it has helped reduce the spam problem, which used to be much, much worse. Think about it: when was the last time you saw an obvious spam thread or post here?

No, the thread did not disappear because you added "[Solved]" to the subject line. It disappeared because Aksimet re-evaluated it after the edit, and one or more of its cryptic AI rules had changed since you first started the thread.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Yeah, I think all the hosts do this every day. The issue is when an entire thread disappears. There is no indication in the forum a thread has been removed. It would require someone to review the deleted posts area and determine an entire thread was removed. This is not a piratical solution. Unless a host notices a thread is missing, a user notifies a host or CW staff of a missing thread or creates a ticket which all hosts and CW staff see, it is unlikely a thread will be restored.

Re: Where's my thread? 2017/06/29 19:22:13 (permalink)
If anyone feels that they are specifically being targeted by Aksimet, I'd like to hear about it. I don't know if I just hear from the same people while others don't bother to complain, or if individual users are in fact being singled out, but there definitely have been a few repeat victims.

The company that sells Aksimet is very tight-lipped about how their software works, lest they inadvertently give away tips to spammers on how to circumvent it. Web admins and bloggers, however, talk about it all the time, mostly complaining about obvious spam getting through. But some of them also claim that once you've been tagged as a spammer, legitimately or falsely, Aksimet will subsequently round-file your posts. There could be something to this theory, as there is a web page specifically for pleading your case (choose "I think Aksimet is catching my comments by mistake"). I'd be curious to hear about anyone who's used that route.
