Reaktor Q - recording midi from groovebox ensembles

Hi Guys,

Im just not getting this :D ..

I can add synth ensembles and record midi as I play a melody line, thats fine.

However I am having difficulty with these groovebox ensembles like Aerobic or Sinebeats or Heavyocity C-Tools Capsule.

These are essentially drum machines that get auto triggered when sonar play button is pressed.

I can record the audio from them to an audio track. BUT I cannot figure out how to record the midi note info into a track.

Am I being stupid? Is it possible to do this? If so, how?

Thanks in advance ..

From reading some stuff via google - "Reaktor Sequencers do not send MIDI Note On/OFF data." Which is a bit of an omission

So I would say I am dead in the water with this one? Recording Audio seems to be it.

Perhaps it works on a per-ensemble basis? I haven't tried with Sinebeats or Aerobic, as any time I've used them I've done the sequencing from within the ensemble. Actually, looking at the structures, the sequencers seem built specifically for those two respective ensembles. So, you'd have to build something within the ensemble to get MIDI data out of them. Some will output MIDI right from opening them though, like SQ8x8 and Spiral.

I've recorded MIDI out of Reaktor ensembles myself though, too. Make sure the ensemble is sending out MIDI data in the I/O indicators at the top by the main out meter. Make sure that "Enable MIDI Output" is enabled in SONAR for Reaktor (if it wasn't when you inserted the synth, you can enable it by right-clicking it in the Synth Rack View).

Then, just insert a MIDI track and set its input to the instance of Reaktor you're getting MIDI from. Then you can just record the MIDI as usual.
