The grades that kids get are thought of by intellectuals as the *currency of education*.  That's where they go wrong.  Money is the currency of education, not grades.  And when the teaching community finally realizes this, they'll shift their curricula to be more useful. My profs at college (liberal arts)told me to transfer to Julliard (a conservatory), because I kept asking for things that didn't fit in with liberal arts. They kept saying *we don't offer that here...blah blah*  Teachers work for the kids, not for themselves their parents or for stature.   They don't just send them away and bury their heads under the sand.  Not at these prices.

Well I 100% believe that music education is lame and not thorough enough, having done it myself.

Don't worry then, that's one of the areas (along with science and even math!) that the sheepherders want removed from public school curriculum, probably to be replaced with more brain-washing social programs like "Protesting for Fun and Profit."

The main problem with music education is that they teach all the kids at a standardised level like all subjects. But musical ability cannot be measured at an average level, kids who are good at music as I was end up under developed and dont gain the necessary skills unless their parents know about getting them a private music teacher which mine didnt.

I still had to teach myself 90-95% of what I know and could play, and I wished at least that they actually had bothered to teach sight reading in music like everyone has to develop fluency with English, instead of using the pathetic lame mnemonics. I couldnt learn pieces in a decent amount of time because I was never taught or got any proper practice in sight reading, and then learning how to use recording software was incredibly minimal even at university - again my friends that were already good at music production had been self learning at home since their teens.

So let me see if I got this right.

1. You're not as good as you could have been if the school and your parents had done a better job of getting you better training.
2. Your friends (who were already better than you) were self teaching at home since their teens.

That about sum it up?

I had to teach myself 90-95% of sex ed.

And they never taught me how to sight read women either.

Wait no ...

I couldnt learn music production in my teens because I didnt have the required software / hardware.

I could have benefitted from classical / theory / sight reading / development of proper technique lessons from a private tutor.
