Single shots and wavs

hey guys.  Any good how to vids on using single shots?  Im ok when using midi drums like SD3 as piano roll view makes it very easy to put say snare hits wherever you want.   But i really havent a clue how to drag a single shot wav into a track and then get it repeat like a normal snare would in a drum beat.  I've tried doing a normal copy paste but as soon as it goes into the second bar the wave forms are out of place.    Is there an easy way of working with single shots?  Thanks.

First, check your Snap to Grid settings to make sure things will line up where you want them. Once you have your loop of one shots constructed, bounce them to a clip, then convert it to a Groove Clip. You can then extend it for as long as you like.

There probably other ways of doing it, but that's how I would go about it.

I use Session drummer to trigger any drum samples I have. I recorded my own drums set and can play it with session drummer.  So If you have SD which I guess came with the older versions of Sonar it's as simple as dumping the wave file into Session drummers sample folders.

We needed a railroad spike being hit in a song so I recorded it and then used SD to put it where we wanted it. Easier than copy pasting clips IMHO.

hi lads.  Using the SD method that Johhny V suggests seems to be working better for me.
Bouncing to clips and then creating groove clips seems to have a snag for me.  When i select a couple of clips and then choose "bounce to clips" it all seem to be working.  But then when i select convert to Groove an odd thing happens.  Then clip changes length.  you can actually see the clip physically expand.   This means of course the drum hits are now no longer in sync and no longer line up with the snap to grid.   But its not a biggie.  I can use the Session Drummer method and drop the wavs in there.   Out of curiosity though i'd be interested in finding out why the convert to Groove is expanding the clip.

After creating the groove clip modify the clip's beat count in the Loop Construction view.

Thanks Scook.    The loop construction gizmo is actually something i want to learn about.   I'll have a muck about with it and see what comes out.

I load my shots to Dimension, it's very versatile softsynth. You can manipulate tuning, and ADSR time, thats great for drums.

thanks Paw.   So far SD works and i'll give Dimension a try also.   i noticed something weird regarding the single shot wavs.    If i try to drag it into an audio track nothing happens.  But yet if i drag in a larger loop file it plays fine.    If i then take that same single shot wav and drag it into SD it works.  Go figure.

I have a hat sample I made called psssht.wav. I assign a pad in session drummer (one of the 4 white non drum ones) to psssht.wav. then it's just a midi event like any other drum. So I can play, hat hat hat hat psssht hat hat hat.
