Lack of "Persistence of View" = greatest work flow slow down

Lack of "Persistence of View"
is the greatest work flow slow down that I always consistently encounter with Sonar.

I realize that Screensets and the ability to lock them is probably intended to cure this issue
but there is time spent locking and unlocking screensets also, in order to keep things where they should be.
There is no easy visible reference as to if the screenset is locked or unlocked. It's under a drop down menu.
There is no hot key to lock or unlock a screenset (is there?) but without a very visible indication of Locked or Unlocked
that hot key would be fairly useless.

***IF***
every window in Sonar would stay where you put it, with everything showing the way you left it,
in every screenset
even after saving and reopening a project,
don't you think things would be alot easier and faster?

Just imagine ... absolute "Persistence of View" ...
... absolute ... totally reliable ... always dependable.

Opinions please?

Thank you!

Hi. Which version of SONAR do you have?
If on the latest incarnation (2015-2017). Have you checked out the new "Lens" function?
It (if I understand correctly) overrides Screen-sets.
Others will know much more about this.
All the best.

2017.01
I'm not finding lens' helpfull to maintain persistence of view on a per project level.
They're occasionally useful as in show all console strips, but every project is different.
"Persistence of View" problems started for me with Platinum.

X3 was much more persistent when it came to having all windows left exacly where they were.
The only issues in X3 were the width of the Left and Right panels in PRV.

With 2017.01 I'm (farily) consistently seeing:
Snap settings reset to ticks in PRV (if screenset not locked)
Controller lane collapsed in PRV (if screenset not locked)
Left and Right side columns of PRV not staying where they're put. (if screenset not locked)

Maybe 2017.04 PRV will cure these issues but I'm not finished with enough old projects yet to risk the update.

Which windows are we talking about? I know there are areas where they could go deeper when restoring windows (e.g. preserving the state of the browser tree), but windows I use most (e.g. track view) seem to come up exactly as I left them.

Yes. Bit ...

I should have been more clear.
It's PRV mainly

An easily visible Locked/Unlocked indication (on the outside of the screenset dropdown) for screensets would solve a lot of this, along with a Lock/Unlock hotkey,
but absolute persistence of view would also do it.

Being able to name PRV tabs that have multiple tracks in them would solve a lot of slow downs also if one were to want to use one locked screenset with multiple locked PRV tabs.

I think a simple solution for an unlocked/locked indication would be if in the Control Bar's screenset section, the screenset number would be red if locked, white if not.

Yes! Excellent idea!
Combined with a hotkey to Lock/Unlock this would be a real time saver for me.

The new PRV is a work in progress, and CW seems to be listening to users' complaints and suggestions, as evidenced by the refinements in the current release. My plan is to exercise patience while continuing to offer helpful observations like yours.

Agree.

Also, to me anyway....., now that I'm back to the forum more frequently in the evenings (=now have more time) (or at least trying to focus more on priorities).......it seems Cake participates more regularly......and things are being resolved.

I'd bet this will be resolved. in the end it or may not need changes...
