I am new to the forum so bare with me. I have a problem that I can't seem to find an answer to. Although I've read on some earlier forums that I am not alone on this problem. I am getting a pop/click during a session that silences the master bus. sometimes others as well. It happens randomly and doesn't matter what buffers settings I change it persists. I have tried pretty much everything I can possibly think of. I have tried using different interfaces as I thought that my RME was defect but still it persists. drivers are all up to date as Sonar is. My computer is optimized for audio production and I have nothing running in the background.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a fresh system or did you ever not have this problem with this same hardware?

Hi, and welcome to this forum.
Are you on the latest Firmware as well? https://www.rme-audio.de/en/downloads/driver/uc.php
Are you using any plugins with lookahead features? Limiters, Multi-band compressors etc?
Which driver mode do you use? (Preferences (P), Audio, Playback and Recording) Use ASIO drivers. RME is renowned for them.
What latency are you using? (Preferences (P), Audio, Driver Settings?)
All the best.

Thanks for the reply Sanderxpander. This is a new system. I have never had any issues with my interface with my older system which was a duo core running windows 7. I wanted to upgrade everything so had this system built. I thought that there could be an issue with the firewire and windows 10. I have tried 2 different pcie firewire cards and the same thing happens. I did read somewhere regarding resetting totalmix, which I did last night. So will test today to see how it goes.

Zargg. Thanks for your reply as well. I have all the latest drivers and firmware for my rme, which is running asio. The problem still happens no matter what buffer settings are at. But typically I would be changing the buffer to 96 for recording and 1024 when mixing. Another artifact I am experiencing is a nasty digital type distortion sound that happens at times when starting playback. I stop the playback and start it again and it goes away.??? It is again a random thing. I have reset my totalmix and will see how that goes today. thanks again.

I have narrowed the problem down to VST plugins. Seems if I have a VST plugin up on my screen(I have 3 screens)and click on the GUI to change a setting or even x it out of the screen altogether, when I hit the transport(spacebar)the system clicks and one of the busses pin and mute output. If I hit the transport again I can see that there is audio being played back as indicated on the meters in console view but no sound out the mains. I close the project, reload it and all is well again. It seems as long as I don't have any VST plugins up or inserted in the project there is no problem everything runs smooth.  Anybody experience this issue? Any suggestions on a fix. Thanks.

I have not had this problem..
Is it any Vst plugins in particular, or all of them?
Does this happen in a new project?
Do you use Templates when starting projects? If so, try another one. It might have become corrupt.

Are your Graphics card drivers up to date?

Thanks for the reply Zargg. It happens with any vst plugin inserted even synth based plugin from Sonar. Dimension Pro etc. All other non vst plugins are fine dx effects and the pro channel stuff. I will do some more testing today with the template of which you speak to see if there is a corrupt. Also I will check drivers again. Thanks again.

Well another day of testing and still the problem persists. I thought it could be some of the vst plugins but even if they are not present I still have the busses muting when starting and stopping the transport, in my case the spacebar. I downloaded an earlier version of sonar to test it and the same problem, a pop then busses are pinned and output is muted. HELP!! This is driving me crazy. Everything is up to date, drivers etc. I can change the buffers but that doesn't help. Nothing running in the background that would interfere. CPU is barely moving across all cores.
