Unilstalling Sonar Platinum Demo
Hi All, I downloaded the Sonar Platinum demo and now want to uninstall. The problem is that this programme is using a file that is stopping me re-installing Sonar LE X1 Try as I might, I cant delete this programme. Suggestions will be most welcome, and thanks in advance JockStrat

kill it in task manager. What file ? something is still open and running. try unplugging your audio interface/if you have one.

Your easiest uninstall would be to use system restore if you have that enabled. There should be a restore point created when the demo was installed.
ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

I don't understand how a Splat file can stop you installing a separate product. Which file is it ? Have you tried un-locking it or neutralising it with this then un-installing : https://m.en.softonic.com/app/unlockerSystem restore, IIRC (and here i may be wrong) only restores Windows system files, no ? Cheers, Jerry

Anything installed by the Command Center should be uninstalled with the Command Center. Right-click on the Demo in the Command Center for the uninstall option. The command Center itself is managed by the Windows Control Panel Programs and Features. You may wish to completely start over with Cakewalk, here is the kb article on how to perform a clean install of All Cakewalk products http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013372/Clean-Install-All-Cakewalk-Software. Note: step one in this case uses the Command Center to remove the demo.

"Anything installed by the Command Center should be uninstalled with the Command Center" Scook, that did the trick thanks very much Despite re-installing Sonar LE X1 about half-a-dozen times, it fails to download the 'soft synths'. Despite the Custom installation menu tick box indicating their installations...Zilch Just not had a great experience with Sonar LE X1... Nevertheless Thanks and good luck to all JockStrat

As we said in the other thread Jock, You will be miles ahead with Home Studio over X1LE. It's only $50 and from there you can easily upgrade if you feel you need the added features. Two huge reasons, 1-You really don't want to be stuck with 32 bit which X1 LE is. 2-It was based on a bug ridden version of Sonar which did not become fully resolved until X3e. As we said, it's easy to bolster up HS with the addition of the many free plug ins and VST instruments available if you want more stuff.

Think you're right Johnny V, As before, I got Sonar El X1 chucked in with a Roland Tri-Capture, the pack was only £70 so not expensive. I checked and the price I'm getting is £50 for Home Studio so I'm going to go for that. For me it's a bit of a mine-field as I've really only been used to the older recording methods. I'm with you on that as I'm one who even though I had Cakewalk back in 2002, I preferred to work with my hardware recording gear and syncing to my Atari for midi. I just couldn't get the audio part of a DAW to work the way I thought it should. But the Atari blew up and I was forced to do midi on Cakewalk. It took 4 years for me to get that working because I was trying to use a Sound blaster card, Once I finally figured the ASIO driver lesson out all has worked better and better for me and I could never go back. Even though I have the full version of Sonar I find working in Home Studio rock solid and a joy to use. And really, if your used to hardware recording, you'll not find it lacking at all. I think there's overkill in the full versions, I will never use 1/4 of the stuff and they keep adding more and that makes the software buggy and unstable. Home Studio is the best version if you have no time or patients for being a beta tester. Example- count the thread titles of Splat users with issues, Now see if you can find a thread about a HS feature that is not working other than Pilot error.

I was just getting used to the EL X1 but bought a Korg Midi controller and that's when I discovered that the soft synths/ plugins were not installed despite the Sonar programme having them listed in the 'tick box' for installation. Having being nearly driven 'round the bend' I believe that this has been a positive occurrence and has prompted me to upgrade to Home Studio, that hopefully when I get HS installed I'll get the hang of it and have everything working. I'm a musician but find the technical stuff very hard to comprehend at times. It would be great to have someone 'press the buttons' but I don't have that luxury. Just one wee thing please prior to installing HS...When I clean my PC of LE X1 Is there a chance that there may be any 'leftovers' from Sonar LE to cause glitches? or should it be just a matter of a straight Uninstall. I wouldn't think so. I have had a few old versions installed and installed new versions including Home Studio and it didn't cause any issue for me. Just un install X1Le and then I'd go into the computer/Drive C / Programs/ and delete anything that says cakewalk, Even do a search for Cakewalk and just delete all folders etc, Then open Command Centre and download and install Home Studio.
