Two Questions about Clips

Well, I have been trying to do my homework by watching Cakewalk University Videos (almost done the beginners section) and looking at the help files when stuck.  But two questions pop up and my searching has not yet produced answers (possibly due to my lack of good search skills).  First:  I am remixing a song.  I have a drum clip where I like the cymbals but not the drums.  There is a section of cymbals which is isolated and I can split the clip so that section is cut out and I can delete the other sections before and after it.  However, when I try to change that section to a groove clip/loop Sonar doesn't want to cooperate.  If I select the clip and hit Control L or select Groove Clip Looping it does two strange things: 1) tries to cut the clip in portions where I had the cursor resting to select it and repeatedly tells me it will delete all the rest of the data.  What data?  I already deleted the sections of the track before and after the cymbals.  Whether there is data there or not, how the heck can I make that one selection just one plain old groove clip?  Second:  I like to name clips with something descriptive.  Sometimes when I click it says rename clip, sometimes it does not.  Sometimes when it tells me I can rename the clip and I click on it, nothing happens, sometimes it does.  I cannot understand the parameters associated with renaming my clips.  Would be happy to supply further info if needed.  Thanks much in advance for any suggestions and help.

Not sure what is going on with the renaming, but as far as a clip, the simplest mechanic is that it is a "window" into the underlying audio file. Whenever you slip edit a clip, the underlying file is not affected, so a small window into a big file still has data past the ends. In these situations, bouncing the clip tells SONAR to make a new file which stops exactly at the ends of the clip. The original audio is unaffected by this, and simply creates a new file and places it where the clip was originally. That will groove clip for you without issue.

"Delete all the rest of the data" is a misnomer, since SONAR will not delete an audio file from disk, but it will trim the ends of a clip when creating a new file.
