Why Does Rebooting The Software Fix My MIDI Controllers?

Every so often I just cant play my midi keyboard until I reboot Sonar.  Happens several times a week.  
Roadblocks everywhere.  I am not making any changes, the device is checked in "inputs" in the Prefs>MIDI>Devices.

    its amazing, my controller plays perfectly in standalone VSTs.  No good in Sonar.   Even after a reboot now.
