WAI (Where am I) does not work for the Tascam FW-1884

The Tascam FW-1884, despite its venerable age, works very well as a control surface in Sonar Platinum.

However one feature is missing: WAI, or Where Am I, which graphically shows in Sonar with a colored bar, which tracks are controlled by the surface.

I first thought that perhaps the control surface driver 1.22 from Tascam did not send enough information to Sonar in order for it to work. But it is untrue.

When using the Bank < and > buttons, as well as Shift < and > on the FW-1884, Sonar does enumerate correctly, in the ACT module of the Dock Control Bar, which tracks are controlled, such as:
Tracks 17-24 - Master 1

Therefore, can you please implement / enable WAI for the FW-1884 ?

WAI and the Status bar text are controlled by the plug-in, completely independent from each other. So when the text is changed, that does not mean WAI is set.
I do not have 1884, but:
1) in the preferences/MIDI/Control surfaces check that:
1.a) WAI Display "Track View"  and "Console View" are set
1.b) WAI column for 1884 plug-in is set (the one before "WAI color" column, is is so narrow by default you can not read the label)
2) check in 1884 plug-in preferences for "synchronization with Sonar strip/wai/etc" options. Mackie has one for current strip.

In any case, I guess Tascam is not going to modify plug-in for obsolete hardware. And CW probably not even has the code for it...

The WAI column for the FW-1884 control surface is greyed out.

So if it's really dependent from the driver, there's very little one can do.
I asked Tascam to open source the source code of the driver now that they don't support the product, but I guess it would be a miracle if they agreed to it.

I'll live without WAI, although it sure would be better.
Still very happy that such an old piece of hardware works at all, and in fact very well, with Sonar today.

Grayed column means corresponding interface is not implemented in the plug-in.

With the source code it is really easy to add, in case corresponding compiler can be found.

Writing own plug-in from scratch is a different story, I have done that. Making Mackie like configuration in my plug-in is not a one day task, but simpler then writing C code. At the moment we are in progress with Yamaha 01v (original one). It has never worked fine as a Control Surface (for any DAW), but it is slowly starting to be reasonable 14+1 channel controller for Sonar now
