Audio Comping / Melodyne / Editing....

Hi all!
Using X3 and Melodyne Studio 4
Recorded multiple audio takes (in take lanes)
Been through and 'comped' using the comping tool to select the best bits of each
Then used the 'flatten' comp to create a single 'comp' track (in the top take lane)
I can highlight the primary clip and create a region FX for Melodyne from this - but it seems to create new 'take' (on the T1 take lane) and the Melodyne edits are in there. I then have to 're-comp' the track and select this new take with the comping tool and then 'flatten' again (which now gives me a second 'comp' track in the top take lane) which is the one with the Melodyne edits in it.

Is this the best way to do this - or is there a simpler way?

When comping, is it possible to have silence in some sections (i.e. not have any of the takes playing)?

Once I've flattened the comp (even before I create a region FX) - is it possible to turn this back into a normal / simple audio track (so that I can split it, or do other simple edits). Sometimes the split option is greyed out, other times is shows but doesn't work. I assumed I would need to 'bounce to clips' - but that is greyed out also?
I really like the comping tools, but I assumed 'flatten comp' would then 'finalise' all the edits and give me a single audio track that I could then work with?

Thanks
Paul

I do my Melodyne work on the individual clips before I flatten the track
You can edit the flattened clip by right clicking and unlocking it.

Thanks both - the 'unlock' option was what I was missing!
I'm still working through the many options in Sonar to try and work out my best 'workflow' for my process...

First time I've tried using Melodyne in anger (used V-Vocal previously) - very impressed with what it can do, but as always it's a learning curve! I've noticed that when I first edit a clip in Melodyne I get the 'blobs' to edit the audio (which I'm getting the hang of slowly!), but if I re-open the clip in Melodyne later I don't get the 'blobs', I just get something that looks like a standard piano roll view - any ideas what that view is, and how I swap between the various views??

After flattening a comp I tend to create a new audio track and drag copy the final comp (lane 1) to the new audio track (archiving the original comp track) then make any changes, edits to it there. The reason I do this is that I often find strange behaviours when trying to edit a flattened comp. Also, this method preserves the original comped track in case you need to go back to its original state.

Yep, makes a lot of sense... wish I'd thought of that before I started editing
I'll add that to my (long) list of 'things to do next time' 😊

Thanks all, the advice and help is much appreciated (as always)
