Just a blues cover

Here it is, Key to the Highway.
I see that my Harry Fox license, NO.: 1270753052,
runs out in August so I thought I should get some mileage out of it.
This, Hoochie Coochie Man and Don't Go No Further are "must plays" for me when playing out.
My Santana into an Epi Valve Jr.
All done in my office before I finished my studio.
I've re-mastered the mix with the Slate FG-X and Ozone 7.
This is the original master done with Tracks3.
Hope you enjoy...

This is a good rendition of an old favorite of mine.  Everything seems to be in perfect balance, and the performances are tight and tasty.  Very well done!

All the best,

Great stuff Tom. Mix is excellent.
Superb vocal performance. Reminds me of a Jeff Lynne production.
Spot on sir.

One of my favourite popular Blues songs. You captured the aura of the Blues in this number.  Nice tight performance and good mix.

Re: Just a blues cover 2017/05/31 14:41:14 (permalink)
My early blues "training" came courtesy of The Rolling Stones.
Then the "Beano" album hit, Cream, Hendrix, somewhere along the way Electric Mud.
Heady times the late 60's.
It wasn't really til the 90's that my full appreciation of the whole "Chess" scene, and approaching
the blues from a more "traditional" (is that the right way to express it?) angle started.
I tried, and hope came close, to getting a "Chess" feel on this.
Many thanks for all your kind words, it is much appreciated.

Very clean and well balanced mix/production Tom.....performed well too. I particularly liked your vocals.....very natural, fitting, and exceptionally good. Were you a lead singer at some point?

"Were you a lead singer at some point?"
I sang for every band I was ever in.
Probably why we were never very successful...

Even though the band may not have been "successful", it doesn't take anything away from the excellent voice you have.......keep on rocking brother (you've got fans here).

Nice!   I play this one with my band so know it well.  I like your version, it's an old skool feel but with a bit of a modern edge.  Clear, good room sound, with everything in its place.

Took a few seconds for it to start playing, just thought I would mention that for those wondering or not if the link and playback were working, at least in my neck of the woods that is "Maybe my service provider".

WOW! Great mix to my ears, really great!!!!! Not much I can say, it all sounds really great!!! I really like the OOOH AND WOOH's on the vocals.  I've never heard this song before even though you said it was a cover, but to me it's a HIT SONG already just hearing what you are playing. WOW those Piano's sound great!!!

I enjoyed hearing this one very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kudos to you for this one, WOW!!! Good STUFF!!!!

Daniel, thank you.
Wookie, you always bring a smile!
Bobby, loaded fine this morning, maybe "cached" on my drive? iPower is my provider, wouldn't be
surprised if there are occasional traffic issues. They are a "budget" outfit...
I think the Oooh's and Wooh's are some Johnny Winter influence; when he did "delta" style tracks.
I actually "quizzed" a buddy of mine, fancy's himself a bit of a blues "enthusiast", he responded
Freddy King, King's Shelter Records version is way different; didn't "dig" any further.
In a dense rock mix I generally use the TTS-1 piano, on this one I used a piano from Dim Pro IIRC.
Thanks to all,
T
