The madness of Adam Ant

I just watched this, quite interesting viewing. We loved Adam Ant as kids because he was so unlike anyone else in pop at the time, and the music just sounded huge. I'm still impressed by the sound of Adam And The Ants today. A very troubled guy though, is our Adam. A good piece of pop history laid out here.

Sad, but interesting to think what he would have been without the illness, certainly not Adam Ant.

As someone who is touched by a family member suffering with bi-polar depression I believe this piece was done with dignity and grace.

Anything but, steve.  It wont be long hopefully until they kick your ass out of here.  Unfortunately, it might happen to me as well.  I'd be ok with that.  Your brand of negativity is poisonous.  It makes the forums not worth the time.

Huh? My brand of negativity?

Unfortunately, you don't seem to have mastered the social acuity to know when it's acceptable to make a crass joke or to simply say something pathetic just to get a bit of attention.

Did you watch the video James posted? If so, in what way did you judge it (or Adam Ant himself) to be "a little hot and cold"?

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding something here, but like most of what you post, it just doesn't make any coherent sense.

Hi,

It's always scary and sometimes sad and sick, to see these kinds of things and documentaries. I feel for Adam, and will give him credit for the creativity that saved most of his life in one piece.

The perfect example is the cut pieces of paper as bird feathers. Sometimes, one just has no idea where it all comes from, and it might be from the saddest place on this earth ... and yet, it makes it through.

According to a special on film maker Derek Jarman, of which Adam Ant was a part of one of his films (Jubilee), it kinda mentions them as just extra folks, but in the end, almost all of those folks that were in that film did not become just "extra folks". A lot of them did very well.

Highly recommend watching "Jubilee", as it felt similar watching this special ... crazy, insane and everything else in between! Glad to see he has survived it. Well done ... is all that needs to be said!

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

I'm even having a hard time writing a review of it ... also got "Caravaggio" by Derek Jarman, and that is extremely nice, even with the fantasy elements out in the open ... and that typewriter did me in really good! AWESOME moment. Watched "The Tempest", and liked it. I'l try watching Edward II again, as I first saw it 25 years ago, and don't remember it.

Watch Derek's piece in "ARIA" ... it good. Funniest and weirdest is Godard's.

In the same sort of mould as Jubilee, have you ever seen Breaking Glass Pedro?

If you haven't, I can highly recommend it. The story isn't all that original (Slade in Flame* does it much better) but the overall feel of the film is compelling. The music is excellent too.

Breaking Glass is great.

Another movie with Phil Daniels I loved when I was a kid was Meantime. Classic Mike Leigh. Has Tim Roth in it as well. I loved the theme music too and used to play it over and over on the video.
