How to open newer versions of Sonar projects in S8.5

I have a project I created in Splat I want to work on in S8.5. But when I open it in 8.5 I get this error msg: "File Info: Project File Version 13.0.0 authored using Sonar version 23.5.0.32" and the project doesn't open.

I didn't use any Splat features like take lanes and the project should in fact open and run fine in 8.5. In fact I have other projects I've created in Splat that DO open in 8.5 due to a bug in Sonar (Sonar displays other error messages e.g. missing plugins or MIDI ports, then goes right ahead and opens the project in 8.5.)

So is there some workaround to get 8.5 to open newer projects?

I do not have 8.5 available to test. Try creating a bundle and open it in 8.5.

Noel posted a message a while back that when AUX tracks were added that cwp files were no longer backward compatible. I forget offhand which version of Splat introduced AUX tracks though.

It would be a good feature (request) to have the option to save files in earlier formats similar to how MS does it.

    Yes, it is documented here
I did not mention it before because

OK, getting rid of patch points/aux tracks allowed the project to open so we're getting somewhere! No audio yet. Does anyone know where drum maps are stored?

Ah, so you DID use features exclusive to Platinum.

Drum maps have been backwards compatible with all versions of SONAR going back to at least version 6PE, if not before.
you can check the location of them via Preferences > File > Folder Locations

I retired as a principle software developer in 2012. There is no reason why patch points/aux tracks could not be backwards compatible, either very elegantly or slap-dash. Refusing to deal with them at all and simply blocking projects from running is ridiculous.

In any case, I just made it a bus and all is good.
