I dont understand why people celebrate 'birthdays'.
Shouldnt it be 'happy birthday - anniversary'?

Yes, it's only an annual observance of ones expulsion from the maternal fecundatory oven, but the word "birthday" sounds better.

Or why not call it 'another year closer to death - day'?

Im confused. I heard that too many anniversaries ruins your leg lag department. But many birthdays, usually allows us to count the brews and have some fun!
