Windows 10 Creators

So I just did the Windows 10 Creators update and so far not liking it. As soon as I opened a prior project it was crackling all over the place. I had to crank my buffer to 1024 which is ridiculous. Prior to the update it ran well at 256. Hoping there is a setting that needs to be changed or an update.

I didn't see that, thanks for the link. At least now I have some understanding of what's going on.

Is Game Mode "On" the default with this update?

I was hopeful that would have fixed the issue but when I did there was practically no improvement. My block size was maxed at 4096 which I could mix with but no way could  even think about tracking with it. I rolled back and back at 256 again. I will add with my audio interface I had nightmares getting it to be that low with updates and tweaks so maybe in time I'll discover (besides game mode :) ) other tweaks to make it work in the future. Thanks

Did you have to turn off Game Mode when you updated?

It was by default turned on. I went in and disabled it plus searched for a few tweaks online in addition reinstalled drivers as many indicated the drivers might have been corrupted in the update. I'll probably do the update on my laptop as it has not given me any issues plus I use my focusrite on my laptop which has been solid from day 1. I can't say that about my presonus on my desktop but must put the disclaimer out there that this has been my experience as there are those that have had no issues and then there are those that have :)  oh and BTW the focusrite runs solid on my desktop however the presonus has a lot of bells and whistles I prefer in the studio ;)

I think that there was a time when having the most current Windows updates was a good thing.  That is probably still true where security updates and bug fixes are concerned.

But for major feature UPGRADES, such as the recent "Creators Update", it is probably better to wait a few months, if you value stability for your DAW.

There are a few guys on these forums that test early releases and such, that report no issues with the latest update.  But consider that they usually take system images that they can roll back from if they run into any major problems.

The biggest thing to consider is that there are a lot of variations in system configurations.  Some might be OK at the get go, others not.  Unless you have a good backup/restore process in place today, you might want to wait for others to completely debug the latest update for you!

DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...
