Is it just me, or can Microsoft just not get their media player right?..
Hi guys, I use (am trying to use) Windows 10 Groove Player for normal music playback on my office machine (Intel i5, 4GB RAM) - it keeps hanging & stuttering. The mind boggles that after all these years they still can't get such a simple app working well.. Any ideas, suggestions or alternatives? Regards, Ludwig

I use it all the time and have no issues with it. Entering Music Player in the app store comes up with dozens of alternatives. I've used VLC Player in the past which is an open source platform but I eventually came back to Groove since I'm used to it, it does what I want it to do and it's highly integrated with Microsoft's OneDrive.

it seems to have big issues if your audio card is currently not set to 44.1 kHz. the old media player was not so picky, maybe try using that one ...

Yup...I have a irritating problem that cropped up a few updates ago between my MOTU Audio Express and Win10. Quite often it won't play audio files on the desktop or YouTube videos correctly due to not shifting back to 44.1 from 48 which I run Sonar at. I generally have to go into the settings menu and reselect 44.1 as the "shared" default. It bugs me.

I haven't had a problem with Groove Player, but that might be because I long ago removed it from being the default music app. There are many alternatives. Currently, I'm mostly using WinAmp. It's free, solid and more capable than Groove, VLC or WMP. Foobar 2000 is another one that offers useful additional features.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Foobar is great, have used it for quite a while. Lightweight, and works great.

you can also download Media Player Classic which works on everything and is the old windows player. I hate the Groove player, so I use MPC and VLC for everything. https://mpc-hc.org/

I use VLC mainly for video and Mediamonkey for my cd ripping/listening/music playback. It also burns to disc and converts into most codecs.

I still use Winamp as well. It's been rock solid for me since the 90's and while it's no longer being updated seemingly, it's still the best player I've found. Occasionally I go looking at what is new out there but I always end up back with Winamp. Nothing really compares to it. Just wish Radionomy would update it.
