S-Gear 2.71 now available.
Hi everyone,
S-GEAR v2.70 is now available for download. Please remember to install the correct version depending on your licensing scheme (machine-locked or iLOK).
This free update includes:
New 4x12" Cabinet impulses ProConvolver gets new 4x12" cabinet configurations:
4x12" Modern SV30 : upper left
4x12" Modern SV30 : lower right
4x12" Modern S12M20 : upper left
4x12" Modern S12M20 : lower right
Created using a modern Mesa cabinet loaded with Vintage V30 and Heritage G12M20 speakers, each cab configuration has measurements for both the upper left and lower right speaker position. The lower right position yields an enhanced bass response (due to the additional baffle effect) resulting in a thicker sound.

Obviously in this situation one would normally disable the ProConvolver (or use the straight DI mode) - since cabinet emulation is not required when driving out into a real guitar cab. However, applying the 'Z' control will give additional high-end clarity and low-end punch that might otherwise be lacking. The option is also useful if you are using an external cabinet emulator of any kind (hardware or software).
Having recently had the task of building a new live rig (for myself) I spent some time auditioning all the amps in my studio (and garage) trying to find a set up that would work well for small venue gigs. I wasn't necessarily planning to use S-GEAR since the venues probably wouldn't have a great in house PA and I don't have a compact FRFR (Full Range Flat Response) system. However, I found myself drawn to the feel and flexibility of S-GEAR into a Matrix power amp driving a Two Rock 2x12" cab. Initially I felt the sound was lacking a little clarity compared with my tube amps, this led me to experiment with applying S-GEAR's 'Z' curves to a non-emulated output. The results were very good. If you are using S-GEAR live into a real guitar speaker cab, do try this new option and taylor the amount of 'Z' curve as you like.
Improvements to the Preset and Impulse lists and empty preset slots low-lighted V2.7 introduces smoother scrolling of the S-GEAR Preset and Impulse lists. This is helpful when using the mouse wheel to scroll to a particular preset or a blank preset slot. With the smooth scrolling it is easier to focus on the list and find what you are looking for. I'm aware that there have been requests to make the S-GEAR UI larger and this will be coming soon!

An updated S-GEAR User Manual will be available in a few days time. I'll post back here once that is done.
Enjoy the v2.7 update!
Cheers,
